So I was just about ready to order a RAT RC-3 in Desert Tan from NGK to compliment my Falky S1 and possibly EDC... then I read one of the BRKT Bravo One threads on the main page and thought to myself "Man, thats a nice looking knife.. and in the classical setting its just... amazing..."

The picture I'm referring to is here (thank you to StretchNM for taking it), and I just love the look of the BRKT...

Now I'm left deciding if I want to go with something more "tactical" like the RAT, or something beautiful like the Bravo One, or the North Star or Mini-NS for EDC... Of course, I know which way my wallet would rather go...

This is terrible! :(

It's become my favorite EDC, along with a fully serrated Spyerco Endura.

The knife is well made and comfortable is my hand (which is rather small). The desert tan coating is great and appears durable. The knife sharpens easily using a Spyderco Sharpmaker at 40 degrees inclusive. 1095 carbon steel is not a super stainless steel but it is a good choice as long as you take minimal time to care for it. The edge may not last as long as some other steels but it is easier to sharpen.

The RC-3 might be a more tactical knife than the Bark River Bravo-1, but I' not a knife fighter. I carry a concealed S&W model 642 revolver for self defense if truly necessary. (Of course, I do have a concealed carry permit.)

I use the knife for food prep and slice a lot of tomatoes and habanero peppers. I've not used it for harder work such as dressing game or camping, but it serves my purposes well. I have no doubt that it would work well for any reasonable task I would want to use it for.

The knife is well designed and thought out. The sheath is excellent. Most knife manufacturers don't put a lot of thought into the sheath which hinders the knife for EDC. Currently I'm using the boot/belt clip on the kydex sheath and find the knife extremely comfortable to carry on my Wilderness Instructor belt. Numerous other carry options are available.

I'm sure that the Bark River Knife Bravo-1 is also a great knife, but since I don't own own I can;t make a comparison. I can only add my comments about the RC-3. However the Bravo-1 is a beautiful knife. Yes indeed it is a hard choice. I own better looking and more expensive knifes than the RC-3 but I EDC the RC-3 for what that's worth.

I too may consider buying a Bark River knife in the future. At that time I may change my opinion, but if I do or don't one of my grandchildren will inherit a nice knife.

I like the RC-3 so much that I'm considering purchasing an RC-4 in the near future.

You indecisiveness is telling you to buy both!

That said, I'd buy the Bravo-1 first....

Haha, and why's that? :)

I think its actually more between the RC-3 and the Mini-North Star.... I keep flip flopping :(

Thanks for the input so far guys :D

I'm NOT trying to get into a BRKT vs RAT thread.

I like both and recommend you buy both.

The reason I said to buy the BRKT 1st is that an un-coated convex edge tends to cuts better than a coated + "V" ground one. Not at all saying that RAT knives don't cut, (they most certainly do) just that BRKT will usually cut better.

I have a bravo-1 and a rc-4, they are both great knives but like tony a said the uncoated convex ground bravo-1 blade will cut better. I have also found that it splits wood better:)
