Where necessary, I abandoned the traditional method of production... I can live with this indignity.
Not for the elite; without lacquer and silk, it's more of a knife for the lower classes, those of the streets, forests, and water... where the blade acquires honor and patina through working, a life of sweat, grease, and rain...
The long-standing mental influence of the Japanese film "Samurai Fiction" on me allowed me to see wonderful parallels between the story's plot and the knife's crafting process...to achieve a mood...like katana blades clashing to a rock beat...
A fun that thrives on freestyle and traditions like a fresh wind that never blows away...
The steel is W2, with copper fittings and an unknown wood I found in the jungle.
A link to a scene from this film seems almost mandatory.
Sadly I could not find something with English subtitles(only in German) but the combination of humor, sword fight and rock guitars gives an idea....
Anyways, my favourite Japanese movie. If you have the chance to watch it, go for it....it is worth it
here is my take on a Tanto followed by its western descendants compressed to simple flat tang versions made from o7 steel, steel pinned Ceylon Ironwood and fossile bone.
have a nice weekend
Cheers
