I went to the SFO today to pick up a knife that needed a little work. A wonderful woman helped me out and we started talking. It took me a few minutes to realize that I was speaking with none other than Gail Glesser herself, and let me tell you, she is one amazing person.

We wound up talking for about half an hour about everything from Brooklyn to business and life perspectives. Gail is smart as hell and I'm beginning to understand why Spyderco is the company it is. Apart from being a dedicated and savvy businessperson, Gail is a take-no-crap, butt-kicking vegetarian (quite like myself) who's as focused on her goals as anyone I've ever met. Within 10 minutes, I found myself determined to work for Spyderco in the near future. (Subtle, no?)

And where, you might be wondering, does the Meerkat fit in? Well, I was looking at the Almite Navigators and I noticed a strange-looking one behind the pair. Gail showed me this new creation (complete with all the magic-show trickery that this knife just begs to show off) and I was hooked. She showed me a couple of other great models, but there was no way I was leaving without my Meerkat.

Gail, by the way, does a convincing Meerkat imitation, but you didn't hear that from me.

... but it's nice to see that there are other vegetarians in the knife world. Maybe someone should start a thread on that.

I'm also a vegetarian. And, after reading Shmackey's post I thought of starting a thread on the subject. It's not a big deal but it's interesting.

Had no idea there were even this many in the Spydie-forum who don't consider meat to be food! Very cool!:)

I was going to reply with a "yeah, right" kind of tone in response to this idea about calling out the vegetarians. I mean, in a place like this forum, I don't see that getting very far. But if this many people chimed in out of nowhere, and if Gail Glesser herself is among us, then maybe you're on to something.

Then again, I also believe in universal health care and all the other reasons we have a civilization, but I might be pushing it around these parts...

I should point out that by "in a (mighty conservative, but I guess understandable considering the topic) place like this forum," I'm referring to BladeForums in its entirety--not the happy, comfy Spyderco subsection.

I have universal health care, Canadian style. It has it's flaws, mind you, but it's pretty darn good overall.
Also, I figure that there aren't too many vegetarian knife guys.
