Jack told me that the previous owner was a little abusive to the blade but everything else was tight. I reshaped the blade and gave it satin steel finish, it sharpened up and took a nice edge.

One of the things I really like is that it has all the tools that I like on a SAK type knife packed into two layers, you get 7 tools in all, blade, awl, corkscrew, and a combo blade that has a saw, bottle, CanOpener, flathead screwdriver, these are all the tools I like to have when I'm traveling/ on a journey. The knife I carried through my teens and up until my mid-thirties was my original Vic Farmer with red alox scales, and then I replaced it with a Vic Rucksack when I lost my first Farmer( since replaced, before the days of Internet & online shopping ), these are the knives I chose to take on long journeys where I would be bouncing around for three months or more living out of a pack and traveling light, and needed a knife I could depend on. I would compare the GAK to my Vic Rucksack same tools but a layer thinner, much more pocket friendly.

+1 on the work you did to the blades.
And I LOVE that saw/opener/screwdriver combo....genius!

Nice re-profile Pete! what a great knife...Jack, your the best, nice gift.

Pete---HAPPY BIRTHDAY early my friend!!!

That´s a great knife - I´ve owned the Victorinox made one through my time in the german army. Later I bought the same knife, because we had to give it back. A lot of tools in a pretty small package.

You did a really great job on the edge and the blade as well - thanks for showing the pics :)

That was a great and generous act, Jack! Thanks for showing, Pete :)

I've a soft spot for the GAK, I've a few of them around here somewhere. It's hard to find one that hasn't had a hard life as they seem to have been put to a lot of use by their soldier owners, and they are getting harder to find these days. Plenty of life left in that one of yours Pete, you did a good job on the blade, well done.
I wish Vic still made the 108mm Safari like the GAK

This beauty ( now more beautiful ) should serve you well!! Happy Birthday ( 29th again ? ), Pete!! Way to go Jack!! Two wonderful men.

Jack is a fantastic guy, as are many of the forum members here.
~P -most of my adventures are with dirty diapers these days, but I'll be doing a lot of day hikes in the upcoming months:-)

Russde- I agree great idea for a combo tool, can't wait to put to use.

Thanks Paul, you are a gentleman, I have a tiny bit of refining to do but I'm happy with the results.

Andi- great knife still solid, steel took a nice edge, and great in the pocket, do you have any info about B&H? Are they a German cutler?

Steve- many years still left in this knife, doesn't look like the other blades got much use just the blade & some character on the scales.

Gevonovich- I think it will serve me well for many years to come, looks like you are doing a little fuzzy math :-) but 29 sounds good to me:-)

WFC- very cool knife and Jack is a very generous fella indeed, as are many here.

Thanks Jack & thanks for the nice comments.

Pete

Pete - I´ve just haunted the german knife forum site for further information about the B&H-cutlery. Unfortunatelly there wasn´t that much information, except an old thread from 2006. There was just written that noone (on the german site ;) ) knows what cutlery B&H is. Some said it could be a chinese copy and some said it could be an official part of the german army equipment - the typical thoughts when noone has a real idea and knowledge, including me.

Sorry that I couldn´t help you in this case. But it´s a great looking knife and as long as it takes a fine edge... who cares? ;)

108mm victorinox pattern is my favorite. i do carry the mauser a lot or the civilian version of gak.

Glad it arrived safe and sound Pete, and you've done a great job of the blade. Superb pics as always, and it's nice to see your kit. I've had my Mauser Officers Knife 30 years and I think all the tools work really well. Hope the GAK works for you my friend.

I've got a couple of pics of all the GAK marks somewhere and will post them when I can find them (my internet connection is poor tonight).

Jack

Nice one Jack, very generous. As a Vic combo tool addict, I very much enjoy the number of features packed into the GAKs. With one of these and a small fixed blade I "should" never "need" anything else ;)

Here we go, not my pic, but hope it's of interest :) Thanks for the kind words :)

Very cool Jack!
Thanks for sharing Stich !
I have a CCM stamped one and it always goes into the checked bag when I travel! That is a great pattern:thumbup:

Thats great. Very generous. I bought two of these Victorinox in a surplus in Exeter for my boys 10th birthdays. One still had the metal edge protector for the saw. They are cool.
