galavanized steel question

Danny, only have marine experience with galv.
Thought I may help, but can't.
Sorry.
Try it..

I did a quick google for blackening zinc and found commercial compounds, but no "home brew". Birchwood Casey "Brass Black" was mentioned as blackening zinc castings. One source was having problems with black on galvanized wire, and sulphur compounds in the cardboard boxes was blamed, so maybe something with sulphur in it? Good luck!

Have you tried "Liver of Sulphur?" Can get it at jewelry supply house. Will darken many metals. I have had great success on copper, bronze and silver.

Zinc, copper, silver all can be found in nature as sulphides which are black .Therefore if you find a sulphur compound that will make zinc sulphide it will be turned black.

is it jewelry cleaner?

No, not a cleaner. Not very expensive either.

I don't know how it works. Just darkens the metal. I use it on overcleaned pieces I get to put back a patina. It can be polished off, or if you are careful you can just polish the metal that is raised and the nice dark patina stays in the crevices. Like I said, have only tried it on copper, bronze and silver. Don't know about galvanized.

Danny, Liver of Sulfur is Potassium Sulfide. Just ask for
カリウムの硫化

We'll see how good the Altavista translator is. ;)
