Game Camera Suggestions?

My wife and I are looking for a gift for her mother. She has a ground hog living in her back yard, and she is always wondering if it was a homeless cat or a raccoon that keeps scratching at her door in the middle of the night. For a while she had it in her head that the deer poop in her back yard was made by a bear. It took me a long time to convince her otherwise. She's not bothered or afraid of any of this. She's just genuinely excited and interested to know about the things that happen in her yard each night. So—we are thinking she might really enjoy a game camera. What are the various things I should know about game cameras for her particular use? Mon-in-law won't be submitting the images to National Geographic. She just wants to know who is visiting her back yard each night. Can I get something acceptable and reliable for under $100?
