Hello all :D

Looking at getting a GW, if all gels. Firstly I need to know some exact spec's on this blade.

Cutting edge in inches"?

Handle length in inches"?

I already know some spec's. But it's hard to tell the exact blade spec's at times. I mean, is the measurement taken from the start of the choil or the handle?

Also, how does the G10 differ from the micarta. Which have more grip?

And, who here has one(plenty I'm tipping) & what're your thoughts about this knife, as a dedicated gutting/skinning/field knife?

Also the thickness. I see there are a few options here. The FAT GW looks sweet. What do you think.

Thanks in advance men

PS-I also might be looking at one, if all gels on the spec's. If so, do any here know where I can score one ;)

The actual, sharpened cutting edge is about 6,8 cm or 2,68". The official blade length is 3", but that's measured, it seems, from the handle scales to the tip.

Handle length from scales to butt is about 10 cm, or just about 4".

Do note, though, that the measurements can vary a lot on individual GWs. Expect to see variations up to a couple of millimeters in length, thickness, width. None of my Game Wardens are an exact match in any of those measurements - although many "should" be.

The Micarta handles have much more grip than the G-10 ones, in my experience. On the other hand, Micarta seems to react to fluids, so if you get the handle all bloody, it may require some time to get clean and smelling less bloody again. In that sense, G-10 may be a better choice, since it doesn't absorb fluids at all.

I've got a few GWs, and I'd consider it a perfect knife if it did not have that pointless choil and guard on it. As it is now, it's "only" very good and one of my faves. It's a good knife for hunting purposes - small and easy to carry, tough steel so you don't have to worry about bone impacts... A good choice, overall.

The thickness can be a problem, though. I would steer far clear from the fat GWs, unless I was buying one just for a prybar or collector piece. They are way too thick. Thicknesses .220 and down are the ones you should be looking at for actual cutting, in my humble opinion.

Wardens are great knives. They are a lot of knife in a small package. I agree with Elen that the choil is a bit of a bother, but you get used to it and it's not a big deal after a while. I also agree with him that the "fat" wardens are really too fat for real use (though there are plenty that disagree). I don't mind the guard- I like guards.

For me, the thinner the warden, the better. Infi is so tough that you have to try really, really hard to break it, even in the thinnest of wardens. And if you do manage to break it through some freak happenstance, Busse will replace it, no worries.

Micarta and G10 are pretty similar in use. Micarta is grippier and lighter, G10 is (arguably) prettier, but heavier and smoother. Both are nice, both are tough. Micarta has a warmer feel to it than G10- micarta is compressed layers of natural fabric laminated together with phenolic resin, G10 is layers of woven fiberglass laminated together with phenolic resin.

Thanks for the info men  . I have a satin .27"(FAT) Game Warden with coyote/black G10 coming my way.

Finally got me some INFI & it's FAT :D
