It seems I’ve developed a bit of a drool over the lines of Game Wardens and contemplating getting one.

Here are the questions:

• Are .14” the thinnest GWs, or do they come even thinner?
• How good of a slicer is a GW? (not looking to go "Borat" on it ;) )

Thank you for the input.

.14 is the thinnest and the best slicer IMO. Great little knives.

Merry Christmas!

I have a new/unused .14 OJ one with an OJ Steelnut sheath if your interested. I normally would do this privately, but there is no way to contact you.

What knife did take it's place?

This is from my experience based on my personal needs and uses, ymmv :D

Ive owned a GW, SAR3, HACK and Active Duty and came to the conclusion that I'm just not a huge fan of Busses under 4" (I know, I know, I should try a Culti...).

With that said, over 4" and I'm the biggest Bussekin advocate in the world and own 10+ Bussekin from 4.25" to 12" - they just dominate for harder use.

To answer your question, when all was said and done, whenever I reached for a 3" fixed blade, I always wound up grabbing my ESSE Izula despite owning all those other Busses. I loved the handle of my GW and AD and they are some sexy looking blades, but I just never really carried them.

I have yet to find a better 3-incher (well 2.8") than the ESSE Izula + micarta scales - it just fits my hands perfectly, holds a great edge, easy as hell to sharpen, is very VERY light, easy to carry and I never worry about breaking or losing it bc its cheap...

(I'm also a huge fan of the slightly larger ESEE 3mil and Fehrman Peacemaker - they are both more Active Duty-sized at around 3.5")

Here is my faithful stripped Izula:

Really not trying to stir a hornets nest, but I just extremely prefer my Izula when compared to my old GW, HACK, SAR3 or AD.

.

I would recommend the .14 game warden. It's one of the three knives I will never part with, (Culti and Camp Tramp being the other two) and use it for food prep when camping. It's a nice slicer.....great EDC too.

It's not heresy here. There are some others who have decided that, for them, INFI shines in the larger blades for it's superior hard-use properties, but in smaller knives they prefer different steels.

Guy, funny that Trailwolf is advocating so hard for the Izula. I was going to PM you today and ask if you'd tried the Izula II because I know you like thin users. It's very nice in the hand. I do still have a soft spot in my heart for the GW LE (.14" snakeskin) though. It's been all sorts of places with me.

The .14 Wardens are stout slicers. Convex it and it really shines. My favorite GW.

I had a .22 pumpkin handled GW with a blended convex edge. Nice and sharp.

That thickness is overkill on a 3 inch blade in that size and profile. I still loved it and carried it all the time.

I now edc the BAD. Slightly longer, much thinner, higher hardness blade. A real slicer. Not quite as unobtrusive as the GW though.

The .14 is where it is at for slicing. As long as you are going to use it as a knife, and not a pry bar. I have seen a broken GW, in .14, which was used for prying.

I was thinking of getting a Swamp Warden instead of the Izula, but then the Scrapivore LE came along, so that's on order. I still do have three GW in 0.14", which is probably two more than I need. But when has the Busse affliction been about need?

Scrapivore seems like a great offering.

I had a swamp warden but sold it - the ergos on the Izula are just superior - it sucks your hand in.

The Scrapivore looks very similar to the Izula and I'm totally in for one (I bet the Izula scales can be made to fit) - the fact that its in SR101 is a HUGE plus - should be a RAZOR.

Only thing I'm worried about on the Scrapivore is the scraper on the handle - I hope it doesnt dig into the palm... Also makes a hammer grip with thumb on butt seem like it may hurt...

The .14 GW, either my snakeskin LE or, on special occasions, my satin/green linen grail, is my regular front pocket EDC in and around town - it seldom raises eyebrows and is a comfortable little user as long as you don't try to baton with it or use as a pry bar. For heavier use, I'll carry a .17 satin/tigerhide GW or a SAR-3. And the Culti at .12 is IMO the perfect kitchen/camp food prep knife, although the BAD is a close second. I save my SAR-4, now SAR-6, and SAR-8 for the woods and trail as needed and the FBM for the trunk.
