Hi,

I intend to buy a GAMO airgun, basicaly, for fun.
My two optins are the Hunter 440 (1250fps in a .177 pellet), wich is claimed to be the most powerful airgun in the world or the Stutzen, (850fps in a .22 pellet), that's the one with a beautiful like Manlincher stock, full size at the entire barrel.

What do you think ?

Balisticaly, wich one do you think better ?

Thanks in advance,

Here's some typical BF advice: for an off-the-shelf hunting air rifle, forget Gamo. Buy either Weihrauch or Feinwerkbau.

I've picked reviews of a couple of their models only. I can personally recommend the Weihrauch 35, 80 and 77K (I own them all).

For more info, go to Beeman.

Remember all the BF threads about £2.99 Chinese Spyderco knockoff versus Sebenza? Buy the best and only cry once.

Thanks for the reply, Maximus,

I didn't realize GAMO had so bad reputation.
My problem is that I live in Brazil, and I don't have much options. :(

I need to choose between GAMO and some Brazilian brands, like Taurus (that uses GAMO's project, like it uses Beretta's for the pistols) or URKO, that is bad, bad, one.

I'll try to find some other reviews...

Thanks again,

Hey,
Ive never owned a Gamo, but I do own several bb/pellet guns in both .177 + .22
cal.. For knockdown power i'd suggest the .22 . Even at a low velocity the .22 packs more punch no matter what the velocity of the .177 is. My Crosman rifle model
#2260 in .22cal shoots hard and straight. If your looking for a non expensive gun with accuracy and quality its not bad at all. Paid about $125 for it including factory scope.

Well, there was a dead rabbit laying in my backyard last week, courtesy of my Gamo Hunter 440. Left his stinking body there for a day too, as a reminder to his buddies, to stay the heck outta my garden. I'll say this; the rabbit only took a step or two and keeled over dead. My Gamo pellet rifle may not be primo, top of the line, but that rabbit couldn't tell the difference.

I prefer pneumatic reservoir type air rifles or Precharged since their performance mimicks that of cartridge rifles. Spring type require a "follow through" that I cannot seem to do.

Nor could the squirrel in my back yard last week.

I lucked into a minty 440 for $75 at a show.

I like my Gamo 220 as well. It's a barrel break, but puts a .22 pellet right where you want it. I didn't get as good a deal as thatmguy, mine was like 97.00, but with a BSA scope, it's nice.

From an engineering point of view, it is easier to build a good .22 air rifle than a .177 (because of pressures and velocities -no need to go into much detail in this post, if someone disagrees I can explain more on this)

Also, a .177 depends more on the quality of the pellet, and will shoot its best only with the best pellets.

So, if you have to buy a Gamo (a decent but not top-level manufacturer), choose a .22 model and you will really get good value for money.

Without going into the .177 vs. .22 controversy, I just have to add that my favorite air rifle is .177, but costs about 60% more money than the Gamo Hunter. I have shot the Gamo Hunter in .22 and I think that it is a very accurate and nice gun. I wouldn't say the same for the .177 model, though.

Like the Otter said, buy the best you can afford and only cry once.

I only owned HW rifles, the 80 is a personal favourite.

Gammo in the UK were viewed the same way a Yugo is in the car world. Yes it will get you from A to B but its still not the same as a BMW or Merc. As for upgrading it, well, you cant shine $hit.

In the last 10 years or so Gammo has improved greatly but they are still a cheap gun.

Get a HW80 with a Theoben gas ram for a .177 but make sure it has a .22 barrel on it, This way you get around 18ft/lbs and its sweet to shoot and no maintenance spring wise. Failing that get a Theoben/Beeman Magnum. Pure class. In PCP RWS make some beauties or look for a Logun or Air Arms.

Yanks usually make crap airguns. Get a German or UK if available, or another Euro made if the choices are limited.

Are there any good websites that offe information on air pistols/rifles? Also, which websites sell the high quality models? Thanks.
