I just received my 17" Bura Ganga Ram from last week's Deals list. Wow! :D I am really happy with it - a very long (by HI) standards handle - 6 " which allows for an almost-two-handed grip. The blade is 11" and the balance is as good as I've ever seen. I think this one is going to be a "user."

Hey, HD, the GRS looks much like your favorite, Bone Cutter. Have you compared the two?

Tom

Tom,

Yes. They are very similar. if you hold the blade on top of each other the Ganga and the Bonecutter are close to the same shape.

The bone cutter is about a quarter inch or less fatter at the belly. The bonecutter has no cho creep or habaki bolster and the handle is shorter and curved so it is 16" instead of 17". The Blade is thicker than the ganga ram so it's a little heavier.

I'd give the Ganga the edge for machete stuff cause it's a little longer and a little lighter. The Bonecutter for cutting really hard wood. I like both a lot! I like the Bonecutter more cause better edge retention and more traditional design, but I use my Ganga all the time.

I have an 18" Ganga Villager that is great too, but it's not as good as the 17 or the bonecutter cause it has a fatter handle and it is a little too big and heavy. Tires you out with a lot of chopping, but it's a brute..
