Since I found the HI site & forum, there's been a little tickle in the back of my mind that somehow "Ganga Ram" seemed familiar. Yesterday, I started rereading Jim Corbett, & Ganga was one of his long time companions. Got out the atlas & looked for some of the place names & there they were in N.E. India & Nepal. Had to get my kukri onto my belt to finish the tale.

Please provide a reference.

I believe Ganga Ram has passed away now.

He did have a magic in his forge.

Jim Corbett was an extraordinary, almost supernatural, hunter of man-eating tigers & leopards in India & Nepal during the years between the first & second world wars. He was modest to a fault & only wrote of his adventures to raise funds for an Indian veterans' hospital. His Ganga Ram was another man, perhaps Kami Ganga Ram was named after him or was a relative.
In no particular order Corbett's books are: "Man-eaters of Kumaon", "Leopard of Rudrapyag", "Jungle Lore", "My India", & "Temple Tiger". These books are still available. He was the "real deal" & had great big brass ones.

Wow - I just read this and some unused dusty part of my brain went 'Ping!'
I too have read of a Ganga Ram and this Jim Corbett - and of his amazing hunting stories.Amazing what your brain can store away!
