Anyone have one of these? I would like to hear about it.

I really like the blade shape -- wider than the BAS/WWII (more belly) but it does not appear to be as thick as the AK (a good thing for my purposes -- is this so, Uncle?)

I would like to hear from someone who has one. Anyone?

Uncle -- could one be had with a standard sheath?

Thanks to all,

Clay

Clay, the blade is very similar to the BAS model but it's maybe an inch lover overall than the BAS. If it is wider it is not much. And, you are right. It is not as thick as the AK.

I am not sure I can get his khukuri with the standard scabbard. This is one of the kamis own design which I had nothing to do with and I am not sure if they would be willing to change things. They are strange birds but I guess they do have their reasons.

Over in our old forum on knifeforums there is a thread on Gangaolas. If you search old threads you'll find it and as I recall it has some good feedback in it. The forum is still there and you can even post on it but nobody sees it but us.

Thanks for the info, Bill.

Are there any khuks that have a wider profile than the BAS/WWII but not as thick as the AK?

I understand about the sheath. I think it is beautiful -- I would just hate to ruin it.

I really like the flat buttcap on this model!

Of to KF I go!

Thanks again, Uncle

Bill,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but all signs of the HI forum on KF are gone. I tried searching the archives for "Gangaola", as you had suggested to Clay, and came up with zero results. Same zero for "ganja wala". I then used "khukuri" as the search term. Although 41 hits resulted, not one was from your HI forum.

Thanks for the link, Bill. I have been able to find some mentions of the Gangaola by browsing through old message threads. Unfortunately, the HI forum archives are not included in the search function choices. Is HI closing shop at KF or are they simply having technical difficulties?

Clay, my ganja wala is one of my favorites. The wooden handle / flat buttplate is more comfortable than the horn / scrolled buttplate on my 20" sirupati; the blade is the same thickness but 3/8" wider (sorry I don't have a BAS to compare to - gave the BAS to my brother). The leather on the scabbard is beautiful, but I suspect it's actually tougher than the standard - Uncle Bill said he wanted to use it for all the HI scabbards, but it's too time-consuming to make. I bet you'll really enjoy the ganja wala if you get one.

Thanks for input, Berk.

Knifeforums discontinued the active HI forum due to lack of interest, they said, but thankfully kept the archives and we can still post there but nobody sees it but us.

Thanks for the info re: KF, Bill. I'll be nice & reserve comment.

Clay, don't forget it depends on perception.
Your local DA might just decide that a knife designed to cut ( harvest? )ganja/hemp/ marijuana was obviously illegal narcotics paraphernalia.

Jaeger, on the other hand, could probably BS his supervisors into considering it as special LEO only anti-drug equipment.

Interesting and funny observation, Rusty. It might interest forumites to know that of all the DEA folks who use HI khukuris for ganja chopping not one uses a Gangaola.

Uncle Bill

Good one Rusty!
On a more serious note I do not believe in all of this LEO/Military only ownership B.S. Regular, law abiding citizens should be alowed to own anything they want!

Sorry, all of this recent gun control talk has me really riled up. I am completely fed up with the governments intrusions into our lives. When I heard that they wanted to start taxing internet sales the TV was the receipient of a hail of pens! Perhaps I am not your typical LEO.

Mike

I must not know the right LEOs, Mike. Almost all the ones I do consider themselves Peace Officers first and last, other than a few held in general contempt by the rest. Sounds like you fit right in with the ones who flag me down and pull over to chew the fat with me.

I, on the other hand, have this curious ( for a social worker/protective svcs. investigator/substance abuse worker ) faith in our government's powers of discernment. I figure if they don't want me to have one of something, it must be pretty useful, so I'd better get several and stock up before the ban takes effect.

PS: I don't tell clients what they should do, either, I just clarify their options and facilitate their achieving them. It's their choice, after all. Did I mention I'm a certified and experienced Parole Revocation Hearing Officer?

Thanks for the input everyone.

Uncle, I was still unable to find the Gangaola thread on KF. If anyone can post a direct link, I would be very appreciative.

Are there many khuks that fit the description I mentioned above -- wider blade like the AK but not as thick? I think my villager is kind of this style on a smaller scale.

Thanks much,

Clay
