Ganzaaa Special Offer On Scrap Yard, Forsaken Chef 6 . . . . Coming Very Soon!!!

We are aiming to ship the majority of these blades in time for domestic Christmas delivery!!!

We have divided this small run of Scrap Yard Forsaken Chef 6 knives into 2 parts in order to give more HOGs from around the globe a chance at scoring.

This Special Offer is coming this week on both Wednesday and Thursday, December 3, and 4, 2025.

The First Batch will be offered on Wednesday, December 3, starting at 1:00 PM Eastern.

The Second Batch will be offered on Thursday, December 4, starting at 9:00 PM Eastern.

In Order To Score, you must email both Garth and Becky at garth@bussecombat.com and becky@bussecombat.com at the above designated times.

You must include your Name, Quantity, and Blade-Finishes Desired.

These will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is a VERY LIMITED number of these blades, and we expect some heavy trough-warfare!!!

When the Alpha Chef Series was originally developed, there were multiple blade shapes that were considered for the initial test run.

Here is a rare chance to score one of these Forsaken Designs from a very limited, small batch run.

The "Forsaken Chef 6" is destined to become one of your favorite Chef Knives!

This aggressive drop point tapers to a very, very fine tip.

This blade's edge was ground extremely thin, down to .010" thick at the edge, prior to sharpening.

It is important to note that he thickness of 3 Post-It Notes is only .0125" thick, meaning the thickness of 3 Post-It Notes is 20 percent THICKER than this edge is, prior to sharpening!!!

* Please be careful when handling this Chef knife, as staring directly at the edge could cut your eye!🤣

I still don't understand why you'd run AEB-L so soft, especially for this kind of knife. Tempted to check this one out, though.

While 61–62 HRC is the standard recommendation for a high-quality chef's knife, the "best" hardness shifts slightly depending on how you intend to use the knife:
Target HRCKnife TypePerformance Characteristics
63–64 HRCHigh-End Slicers (Lasers)Maximum Edge Retention. At this high hardness, AEB-L supports an incredibly steep, thin edge (like a Japanese Gyuto or Sujihiki) without rolling. It rivals carbon steels here, but requires a maker with a precise heat treat (usually involving liquid nitrogen cryo).
61–62 HRCGeneral Chef / SantokuThe Gold Standard. This offers the perfect balance. You get excellent edge stability and retention, but the steel remains tough enough to resist micro-chipping during standard board work. It is also still relatively easy to deburr and sharpen.
58–60 HRCHeavy Duty / BeatersMaximum Toughness. Better for a Western-style deboning knife or a "beater" chef knife used on dense squash, cartilage, or near bone. At this hardness, the edge will roll rather than chip under stress, which is easier to fix with a honing rod.

I have a 3.3mm scandi bushcraft knife in AEB-L at 62 HRC that I've beat through many knots in cured juniper and generally batoned a good bit of wood with. Beating the crap out of it makes no discernable change in the edge when cutting through fine paper, for example. AEB-L is not noted for wear resistance. For woodworking, this knife holds an edge very well, and it's easy to sharpen. The edge holding comes from stability, not wear resistance. And the edge stability comes from hardness.

I'm not always sure what people mean by "toughness" in blades. There's edge stability and also gross toughness, which I'd say this knife has proven in spades. AEB-L has naturally high gross toughness due to its chemistry. So I'm not sure what a person would be doing with a 0.10-ish kitchen knife (or folder) that would justify running it under 60 HRC.

Of course this is just one personal anecdote, and I'm not trying to make sweeping generalizations from that. But seems to me that AEB-L is very tough, stain resistant and easy to sharpen through chemistry. Wear resistance is its weakness. So unless you're planning to use it as a literal prybar, running it harder is going to be the best outcome.

These are the ulltimate household (ok, kitchen) knives, I use my alpha chef every day for all cutting and peeling chores. Insanely sharp and does everything amazingly well. In for two of these bad boys.

Damnit, I talked myself into thinking it was next year and I missed out. I guess my only hope is to wait for the Valentine's Day Gonza... Yep they are going to be 1/2 off in February...
