I hung an old axe head a while back and it has a small gap at the front, is this anything to worry about and if so what should I do about it

Driving a piece of wood in there is a good suggestion at this point. Unless it's loose and needs to be rehung?
In the future you really don't want any gaps anywhere. Everywhere is important but especially front and back top and bottom. The top usually isn't an issue because you size your wedge to length of the eye and cut it to fit down in a ways before hanging.
Gaps are the bane of any axe man's existence. It's lead me to make hafts before because I can't stand gaps! And to horde helves so I'll always have one thr correct size.
But in your case as long as it's still tight everywhere else just cut a sliver of wedge so it'll fit snugly and bang it in there. Good luck man!

I'd shim it for now, maybe with a few drops of gorilla glue. Or better yet re-hang with a longer wedge.

I often carve a wedge plenty long to fill it all if the provided one is short, and that solves it easily, as well as holding better than a shim.

There are times I'll use a shim in the front, bottom side but that's the only place.

Update, I whittled down a piece of hickory and drove it in most of the way then about an inch of it broke off (the Gap is 3.5 inches long) should I top it out and try again or is the 2.5 inches that's in there enough
