I have several bikes, a couple of kayaks, and a lot of shovels, tools, etc. cluttering up my barn (about the size of a 2 car garage). I've just about finished fixing the exterior so now I need some advice on how to clean up the interior. I'm thinking some kind of wall mounts for the bikes and kayaks, the roof is very high, so it might not be practical to have pulley systems attached to the rafters but that is a possiblity. I've seen some pulley systems that are well over $100 and then others that are just some pulleys and straps and pretty cheap.

I'm thinking peg board for hand tools, etc., but I'm just in the beginning stages of planning an organized storage area.

I'm looking for tips, even websites that may have this kind of information available.

Thanks.

If you have a really high roof, I'd suggest getting as much as possible off the floor, either mounted to the rafters, using pulleys, or mounted up high on the walls. I've got 13' to the bottom of the rafters in my shop and have tried to keep the floor clear as much as possible. Some of the garage websites are pretty over the top, but I've bought garage organization products from Sporty's Tool Shop and Amazon in the past:

FWIW when I was a kid we had a small but high garage. Dad put in pulley arrangements. All you need is a single and a double sheave pulley screwed to the rafters, some cord and hooks. We managed to store a double kayak and four bicycles up above head level.

Take a look at Gladiator by Whirlpool. Available at Lowes, and maybe Home Depot. Amazing versatility, with cabinets, wall storage, racks and hooks galore. Can get full 4x8 mounting panels, or what I have, the planks that mount to the wall wherever you like. A bit expensive, but you can add as you go. Really well made and tough.
