Got to shoot a Garand today. Had a blast. I have shot them before but it has been a longtime. What a classic firearm and I love the ping when the clip flies away. Anybody else have a garand? I just might have to get one of my own someday.

Grew up shooting garands,im sure you had a great time! Love shooting the little brother too, the m1 carbine. Something to be said for those old school weapons.

My dad has an M1 carbine that I grew up shooting. Thats another one that I need to pick up someday.

Sounds like an awesome day. Never shot a Garand before, so I really don't know what I am missing yet.

I shot a S.M.L.E. that had been professionally converted to 7.62 whata hoot that was. I couldn't imagine street fighting with one of those, somebody could get hurt!

Haven't shot a Garand, but have owned an M1 carbine. It was fun to shoot, but over long distances as we have in AZ it lacked the punch and accuracy of the .308 I now prefer.

My favorite shooters belonged to a deputy sheriff friend of mine who used to let me play with his BAR and Thompson (both full auto.) Now THAT was a good time! I was always surprised at how heavy the Thompson was and how well the BAR performed!

Love shooting the Garand. I bought one several years ago through the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

I've fired a few. Always a blast. I don't have one myself but I have several friends that were part of the Curio and Relics gun forum. Went to a couple of their shoots. All kinds of neat toys. :)
Now when I see them there's always someone different showing me their new Bussekin knife. I used to take some of mine for show and tell.

I purchased one from the CMP a while back. They were great to do business with. Very helpful on the phone also. When it first arrived I played with it for a bit (no firing until inspection) then disassembled it to inspect and clean it. I found a broken operating rod spring (which I can understand being that the rifle is older than I am - the CMP armorers (Sp?) do great work so I'm guessing the spring was on the verge and still together when they inspected it). They had a new one to me within a couple of days. I also bought a bunch of the surplus ammo they have for the Garand at a good price. A lot of fun to shoot and pretty easy to maintain. Kind of nostalgic for me also. Though I'm in my fifties now, I have a newspaper clipping of my dad sitting on a dirt wall in Korea (during the Korean war) with a Garand in his hands. The CMP has a number of "grades" of the Garand. They range from the heavily used and worn to the just about perfect with pricing as appropriate. They can be as addictive as knives for many. I'm resisting the temptation for another. Lots in information and resources on-line also. Mike

I have a Garand that my grandpa left to me and i also own a Springfield M1A. M1A is a little easier on the shoulder but the garand is in the top 5 greatest guns ever in my book.

I own one that my grandfather won through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. He gave it to me. it is so much fun to shoot. always turns some heads at the shooting range!

My father just received an M1Garand from the civilian Marksmanship program and I must say the rifle looks brand new! He didn't go with the highest grade so we were expecting some wear but when we took it out of the case the stock was brand new Missouri Walnut, the receiver appears to be redone with no marks what so ever and the barrel is pristine. For $625 he received a like new piece of history made by Springfield Armory, cant beat that! I would highly recommend going through that program if you are eligible. I'm shooting it for the first time this weekend, can't wait! I'll try to get some pics and post them up. Trevor~

They are a lot of fun to shoot and the cmp program is a great way to pick one up. One of the greatest all time battle rifles, although I would hate to have to hump that heavy thing all over europe.

Wow, I just checked out the link to the CMP and was blown away by the price they now command when in good nick. $3000 for the best !

The Garand is a rifle often encountered around the world.

Djibouti has old colonial links with France and the French Foreign Legion were issued Garands up until the 1960's. They were also supplied to Ethiopia. You could find unissued Garands in Djibouti's arms market at some incredibly cheap prices!

Lol ... there was probably more money to be made bringing these back to the States than working there ...

Got a WWII Winchester (3/42) with a 6/44 Winchester barrel. All other parts WWII Springfield Armory. Looking forward to passing it on to my 10-year-old daughter. A piece of history like this can't be replaced.

Yeah, some of the best sources for mint Garands are from foreign markets. Hundreds of thousands were sent to friendly countries and they've been sitting in their original crates for 50-60 years! Some of the most cost effective ammo comes from South Korean stockpiles. It's usually accurate enough to compete with as well. I know plenty of guys who purchased several thousand rounds at 20 cents a piece.

Somebody say CMP?
