I bought a garant axe at a auction last week. I can't find any information about it online so I wanted to see what you guys thought about it. I saw someone else who had a single bit axe with the same paper logo on the front except his had another paper on the back saying it was made by hults Bruk, I'm Not to sure about this because it seems kind of odd. any info on this axe would be appreciated. Could it possible be a collectors item because it's a NOS. here's a link to the other garant axe I found http://hultsbruk1697.se/vintage-axes-hatchets/hults-bruk-unknown-date-garant-axe/

Your pictures won't open but then again host PhotoPhucket hasn't done anyone on here any good since they suddenly decided to charge big bucks for the privilege.

Garant et fils operated out of PQ (Province of Quebec). They assemble tools, press sheet steel products (shovels etc) and form plastic goods in-house but forgings (such as axe heads) have always been farmed out. In the 1960s and maybe through the 70s they sourced their axe heads from British, Swede and German makers. Since then they've gone with Chinese stuff. I'm not aware of there being any collector interest in Garant products (I happen to have a Garant-assembled Iltis Oxhead, bought new in 1992) but NOS gear is always of interest to someone out there.

I wonder what amateur hickory is ?
The word is of French origin and implies more of 'solely for the love of an activity' than what it has become in English. Whether Garant farmed out the handles to a local Quebec company or made them themselves they must have received feedback on this logo once they expanded their markets to English-speaking Ontario and the Maritimes.

Here is your first link:

I copied and pasted the bolded portion of your link to insert here in the forums if it helps. I also had to log in to the photophucket to view it there. I still think that is rotten of them. If the photos are still there and the posting users can't access them, are they assumed property with all rights reserved on the part of the host?
