I mostly just lurk here cause I go to too many forums to post everywhere but I wanted to find out y'alls opinion. I'm somewhat of a flashlightphile also and after spending good money on the petzl tikka to have a defective switch and the princeton tec headlamp (I forget the model) only to have to cover up the transparent case with tape so it wouldn't shine in my eyes I dropped a couple bucks on a garrity headlamp at walmart. For less than 10 bucks I have a small headlamp that has 3 brightness settings, plus a couple of blinking ones and even tilts!!! I use it to read at night in addition to the usual small headlamp needs. It blows the 20-30 dollar name brand ones away!!! The beam might not be just so but the switch has never failed, the light has never flickered, the light doesn't shine in my eyes either. It doesn't look to be very sturdy but I havn't broken mine yet and at least it works which is more than I can say for the million dollar ones. It also has this little blinking thing that I thought was a defect but they all do it. I guess it's so you can see it at night.
I still like my large petzl headlamp and my princton tec small flashlight but the small cheap garrities are great for a small led headlamp. There is also a tiny one that runs on a round lithium battery that I have but havn't found it as useful due to not being able to tilt it. I keep it in my purse (I'm a chick, I can carry a purse)
Just thought I would mention my experiance in case anyone is thinking of dropping real dough on the name brand small headlamps. It's the garrity 3led lamp and it tilts and uses AAA batteries.
