has anyone actually tried one of these if so can you share some info, like does the carving get in the way during use.

You may want to pm/email javand (if he's not hiding himself in his stash munching those steel bars) as he has a Kumar Garud that's crazy awesome in weight.

Just wondering, should Garud be a big bird?
Garuda as i know is a gigantic eagle.

I bought one with small crack in the wooden handle. The carving is rather smooth and does not bother me in the slightest, but I do have calloused line-cook hands. The blade without sheathe weighs a whopping 984 grams (over 2 lbs 11 oz), at an 18 inch (12" blade) knife, but I do not find it uncomfortable to use. Then again it is made by Sher, which from what I understand gives it magical Excalibur-like properties. :p It came with a near mirror-like finish and holds an edge (and shine) very well.

Great knife for heavy use. Makes friends go 'WTF IS THAT!?' :D

I've done some mild chopping with my Garud over the last 7 or 8 years and it doesn't bother my hand much. That said, it certainly isn't the most comfortable khuk for me to swing, but I believe that has more to do with the girth of the grip rather than the carving. Mine lives under my bed, and would make a fearsome monster-slayer if one wanted to do such dirty deeds with a little more flair :p

You can never have too much swag. That's why my pheasant accented cavalier hat is as near as my bed as any weapon. There's no boogeyman in my closet, he's outside jealously glaring at my fitted clothes and shiny weapons.

If you're thinking of getting a carved Ang Khola, do it. Just reading this thread again made me go to my dresser and admire the blade.
