Hi,
Looking for some info on this maker or knife...picked up this folder in a recent deal..for next to nothing and was told it might be pretty collectable/valuable..it was called a "channel folder"..looks like a tri-fold to me..made by MS GARY BARNES?
here are some specs:
1. blade is a modified wharncliffe 3.75 inches long, bead blasted with a fancy "B" logo engraved with a dagger going through it..
2. handles are bead blasted titanium with purple engine-turned overlays..
3. knife is in like-new condition with tank-solid lock up and butter smoothness..
4. was told this was a featured knife in knives illustrated a couple years back..

pics..

just did a look up in knives 2003 and he is listed as Gary L. Barnes ABS MASTERSMITH since 1983 average knife price $2500..

maker of high-end folders and fixed..says his logo is an engraved "B" with a dagger going through the center..

Gary's work keeps popping up lately. I really wish I owned one of his folders. He is now staying away from knives for the most part, and concentrating on his other passion: High-precision air target rifles.

From what I have seen, read, and heard, Gary's work was in the very top level in the early eighties. And ALL of his pieces are *very* unique. He really did things diferently. I have seen everything from friction folders, to this beautiful knife, to elaborate fileworked lockbacks from him. I have yet to actually see a fixed blade, for whatever reason.

You done real good. That's a keeper, or you will make a tidy profit if you decide to sell it, I am certain.

Garys knives are indeed awesome. There is a wholesaler in virginia that recently had about 10 of his knives for sale. I assume they were from a private collection. To the best of my knowledge he has not made any knives to speak of for a few years. He is now a custom builder of high dollar, extreme performance air rifles. I remember seeing him at one of the early blade shows when it was held in knoxville, his damascus folders were second to none. You made a wise choice.

I'd heard that Gary was a Airgun guy now. That's a nice one, I've seen a few knives with that design, a factory must have picked it up for a while. Now's a different time, the factory guys would be all over Gary today.

I swapped a clip point factory Wood folder for this one many years ago.

This is an exo-skeleton model, lefty noless:
