Just about 10 years since our very own Gary Graley made this knife...a beautiful large tanto; 11.25 inch blade and 16.75 inch OAL, cord wrap over red rayskin.

Wonderfully smooth grind and shaving sharp, the cord wrap is tight and perfect. the package is finished with Gary's leather work (one of his very few fixed blade sheaths!)

I'm sincerely proud to have this in my collection, it's one I always wind up showing people, and they invariably are very impressed!

Thanks for a beautiful knife Gary :)

Michael, Thanks for sharing this striking example of Gary's work.

He's a talented man that Gary Graley:thumbup:

No matter what Gary does it is always fantastic. Very talented man and a hell of a guy to boot.

Michael, G2 is going to hate you.LOL I can see his In Box filling up now.

Gary is indeed one talented fellow and a good friend.

That IS nice. VERY nice.

Pleasure to see it. I just know the name from the forum and knew Gary did great leather work. I guess it should be no surprise he is multi-talented:D

It´s great to see this knife again. I was starting on the style and exchanged many e-mails with Gary back then.

Wow Michael, thanks for the lovely photos!

That was a lot of hand work to get down to the
zero bevel edged finish, sticks and sand paper for the
final bit, the blade is A2 heat treated by Paul Bos
the guard is stainless steel that I formed and press fitted
onto the knife, sting ray skin with cord wrap, if I were to do
it over again, I'd put something beneath the skin to make it
a bit more oval, but it was a sharp knife.

RJ Martin taught how to cord wrap at Ashokan so I got the urge
to make something...like this ;)

A little history on that sheath, near the tip are some tooth imprints
from Sugar, a pet pup of RJ Martin
The story goes like this, RJ and I were looking over some knives
in his kitchen and left things on the kitchen table, my big knife and sheath
were on the table, knife removed from the sheath at the time, we moved out
to his shop where he has some neat toys there, talked a while and looked over
the shop. On returning to the kitchen I noticed my big knife there but not the
sheath, hmmmmm? where did that go? looked in the bag I brought the knives in,
not there, then RJ got a bad feeling and went in search of their rather large puppy,
a labrador (spelling?) it is a very active pup, RJ found the sheath with several
puncture holes near the end of the sheath, he felt pretty bad, I said don't worry you didn't bite it :)

And thanks guys, chiseledged blades are pretty keen cutters!

Edited to add, thanks Ivan, I enjoyed our emails and watching as your knives
progressed, my pleasure to have been a very small part to provide some feedback
to you, love your knives too btw!

Great knife, Gary!

If you get the urge to do it again, could you put the bevel on the other side and use 1095? :D

G2 , I never knew !!

That is extremely fine work , both sheath and knife. Very impressed....
now when you retire , you know you have a calling ;)
