Does anyone have any experience with GM Hand Made Knives??

http://www.gmhandmadeknives.com/

He sells his knives on ebay as well. They seem to be exactly what i'm looking for, but wanted to know if the quality is there? He told me that he has sold over 2000 of his knives all over the world, and has only had 3 sent back. What do you guys think?

Looking at the information that he gives, it looks like he has a quality product. I have never used or seen one, but his stuff looks like it's good quality.

His handles look a little bit blocky, but that could just be the photos. It can be hard to see contours in photographs.

His sheaths look very chunky and overbuilt to me, but again that could just be in the photos.

If his blades are your style, I would say that you are probably safe getting one.

I would suggest asking why those three were sent back, and if it was because of quality issues, ask what he has done to eliminate those problems.

thanks siguy for your response! I was thinking the same thing with the sheaths. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone here has one, and can give me a review. He's got positive feedback from every knife he's sold on ebay, but then again, those people who purchased them might not know diddly-squat about knives.

If you take a look over at BB in the makers for sale section you can get a good idea of the range in prices and quality that bushie blades are going for. Personally, after the exchange rate, that seems quite pricey. Other makers are charging like 100 to 130 pounds for what looks like nicer finished product.

Look interesting. I have never seen or heard of his work before.

The materials look good, but judging by the pics like this one.

I would want a better fit and finish on $200+ knife. But I'm a picky bastid at that price:o

I would rather get an Off the Map Custom Knives Bushcraft for the same price if not lower.

Well, to me the only thing you can hang your hat on when buying a custom knife is trust in the maker. I buy lots of customs, but they are always from makers who have a presence here on BF. Not that there aren't great makers out there who aren't part of BF, but this place is kind of like a big customer service desk when it comes to issues. Also, I see active engagement of makers in these forums as a certain kind of "peer review".

thanks for the comments....i would like to purchase one from a maker here, but can find a bushcraft knife on the forum that isnt sold yet...also, i cant wait around for weeks to purchase either...i need one fast

Revolution13 where are you from? Sometimes adding your general locations in your user information is helpful because we can provide you with better advice.

I notice that the maker in question is in the UK. Why not contact some of our UK members like BaldtacoII who herald from the region about good suppliers or shops to get one from.

If you are from the US - then you might find a shipping time as long, making its way through the borders, as a maker would take to build one. Last I checked, Brian Andrews had two of his bushcrafters up for sale and I think at least one is still available. It is a classic scandi grind with full tang that has rave reviews and is cheaper than many of the offerings on your site. Then again, if you are in the UK it might be fastest to get a UK maker to build you one.

they don't lookj to be all that great, also, if he had made 2000 of them you'd think he'd remember the name of the "appoxy" glue he used.

i buy lots of knives here in the uk and i can honestly say i've neither ebver heard of or seen the knives, website or the maker before,

they're also a bit on the pricy side, you could get a knife from pretty much any maker in the uk for that money check out alan wood, stuart mitchell, guycep and shing

I'm in the u.s. I've found sooo many makers that i'd buy from in a second (but then theres the WAIT). Unfortunatly, my situation calls for a blade in a matter of two weeks tops.
TonyM- thank you so much for the advice of "off the map knives"! I like their site, i like their location, i like their knives way better than gmhandmadeknives, and i like that they have them in-stock ready to go! Does anyone have experience with them?
Kgd-I'm trying to find brian andrews' knife right now...i assume he's in the BF right?
thanks again everyone for the help!

Brian Andrews is the maker of the Off the Map customs.

It is an outstanding knife, you will not be dissapointed!

I would have preferred to send a PM or e-mail and keep this out of a thread, but I couldn't. But, I have two bushcrafters ready to go, right now :) They are in the exchange.

If you get it, and don't like it, I will gladly take it back. No worries.

Shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions.

I have a funny feeling that they wont be returned Brian:D
Brian has put alot of thought into his design, and it shows...a very well built knife that screams comfort and performance.
