Gas mask/whistle quandry.

In reading numerous survival pack/kit threads, I see that some include a form of respiratory protection i.e. gas mask.

They also normally include a whistle for noise/signalling.

What product(s) or devices, that are not lung powered, would be useful/useable for signalling and sufficient noise production??

I'm looking for something that could be used, while wearing a gas mask, to lead others out of a building, as well as to indicate your position if trapped.
 
First thing that comes to mind is a flare.

But for the noise factor what about one of those little personal siren things that women in Europe carry around?
 
Hmm, open flames might not be good with possible gas issues.

Compressed air horns have limited life.

I hate limitations....
