I just picked up what I thought was a heat treating oven made by Johnson gas appliances. The ID tag reads; furnace # 142 special length. It has a seprate control console for temp, gas , and air flow. I bought it sight unseen and after I got it home I realized I might not have enough city gas preasure to run the unit. The information on their web-sight Johnsongas.com reads " Gas Pressure 4-1/2" to 14" W. C. Nat. Gas" Could someone translate what this means as far as residential city gas preasure. Thanks
Dave in Ohio

27.7 inches of water = 1 psi.The average psi of residential gas lines is 7psi.A call to your local gas company will give you the figures for your location. W.C. is water column,BTW.It is the pressure measurement made with a water filled manometer. If the oven runs at 14" pressure it would only need 1/2 psi.
These figures are from my memory, but I believe they are correct.Still, call the gas company. - Stacy

thanks Stacy thats what I need to know. I'm calling the gas company now. Why didn,t I think of that?

Get some of George's Relish and you'll have all the gas pressure you ever wanted !

Dave, I need to see this oven. Sounds pretty damn cool ;). There are a couple things I don't like to do, these are also both things I shouldn't do ;). One of those is wire anything, the other is run a gas line :). Two situations where I'm not the best guy for the job :p :D .

I've heard about Georges relish has anyone etched a blade with it yet :D Matt I'll send you some pics soon as I'm done boiling this chain. Total weight on the oven is 760# it looked funny in the trunk of a saturn.
