Avg. Fuel Prices
Orlando, FL 6/19/00

Chevron
Regular: $1.62
Plus: $1.72
Premium: $1.80

+++++++++++

Everyone,

I invite you to post the average price of fuel in your area.

I know this isn’t exactly khukri related, but I think we’re ALL getting screwed--some of
us more than others. Since we’re scattered across the country, knowing what we’re all
paying will be a tremendous leverage point in asking our elected representatives to get to
the bottom of what’s really going on here.

If you’re still upset that I posted this, consider this:
The hike in fuel costs (between now and a year ago) is ‘almost’ equal to the cost of one
new khukri every six weeks**.

**Given a commuter consumption of: 25 gallons per week X 4 weeks X .60 avg. increase

I used 25 gallons because I drive an old GMC Jimmy, my city usage is actually a little
higher, but you get my point.

Here in Baton Rouge, La., premium is about $1.62 -- regular about a dime less. You're right about it, Chris. We're all getting screwed. It has been revealed that during the last year, oil company profits have increased several hundred percent (Texaco led the way with 473 percent). Big business and our government "of the people" -- what a joke -- conspire on a regular basis as to how best rape us, the little people who lack the money to fight them in court. Of course, that brings us to the topic of lawyers and justice, which are two terms that have nothing to do with one another. Shakespeare said it best when he said that the first thing we should do is get rid of all the lawyers. Except he actually was a bit more radical -- he said we should kill them all. I'm not advocating that, yet.

Anyone who believes that "justice" doesn't come with a price tag only has to look at the O.J. Simpson "trial" -- a true miscarriage of justice! 'Nuff said.

Here at Rockford, Il

regular $1.89

regular plus $2.00

premium $2.10

this is at the Philips 66 station.

I put lawyers and politicans at same level as used car salesmen. You can not believe if their lips are moving.

The independant trucker is being killed by these high fuel prices where as the larger freight companies tack on a 3% fuel charge to the bill.

Also...

Last month Congress voted against raising CAFE minimums. CAFE (An acronym which I forget at the moment--sorry) are the MPG minimums set for new vehicles coming out of Detroit.

Almost immediately after the vote, Carol Browner (director of the EPA), 'mandated' the use of reformulated fuel for high pollution cities across the USA (e.g. Rockford, northern Michigan). I'm totally amazed that none of these watchdog reporters in the media have put two and two together.

It's also amazing that nobody has told us just how much cleaner this reformulated fuel really is--you can already guess the difference is minimal, can't you?

Even WORSE, the new formulation is patented, so part of the increase goes to pay the patent owner.

This morning I hear something I didn't know...the ‘magic’ fuel reformulation uses corn-based methanol (moonshine) which isn't very expensive because our farmers are so productive.

GREAT TOPIC! (and I'll even bring the topic momentarily back to khukuris in a neat way). First, gas prices here are $1.69 for regular, which I use exclusively now, since in my opinion, super unleaded is only a requirment if you drive a ferarri or porsche or corvette. I drive a jeep. Now, for the khukuri comments relating to gas: I got hit with a 5% "gas surcharge" on my air freight on the last shipment. A polite little sign in the cargo terminal apologized, but said it was "necessary" to combat the hikes in gas prices. Why don't these guys bite the bullet and simply raise prices for cargo?

Maybe I should charge a five cent gas surcharge for khukuris!

Yeah, It's up to about $1.68 for regular in my neck of the woods (Near Philadelphia Pennsylvania). In fact, It was so bad, I checked in on that new Honda Insight. It wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be, around $20,000 with Ac. The 70mpg Highway would certainly seem to make the price worth it in just a few years. Right now, My car gets about half that, and Im paying nearly $20 a tank for 11 gallons.

Yeah the prices really suck but you can buy a whole lotta gas for $20,000!!!

What I wanna know is why the milage of all the hybrid cars is so POOR! All the gas motor does is charge the batts on most of em yet they only get 60-80mpg. With simple regenerative braking (this allows the motor to generate power while coasting or decelerating) it doesn`t even have to do all the charging. These things are burning almost a gallon an hour at 65mph. At this speed a small light car only actually uses about 10-12hp. A Honda generator big enough to run a house only burns about a gallon every 6-8 hours and it doesn`t require a computer the size of a footlocker to do it! BS overengineering anyone? Of course it`s not just the hybrid cars,it`s all of em. Why does a new "super sophisticated" Mercedes SUV get the same milage as a 71 Blazer with a 307?

Guess it's just the price we pay for cleaner air (cough, cough). Way I figure it, I spend about $40 a month on gas, and this thing would cut my cost in half, so hmm, in about 100 years, the car will have paid for itself, what a bargin.

We've been paying anywhere from $2.05 to $2.15 per gallon here (Kona, Hawaii) for nearly half a year. Price of living in Paradise? EGADZ!

Western maryland, southern washington county: regular $1.63 Super :$1.73 A small comment or two. Iraq cant seel her oil on the open market and still is being punished for the OIL Gulf War. Gas would be at least 40 cents cheaper alone if IRaq could sell oil. Corrupt Oil Sheiks and Us British oil companies laughing all the way to the bank. Taxes on a gallon of gas in illionois and probalby the same elsewhere is 68 cents a gallon. Big Bro Government in Dc also laughing all the way to the bank. Old Man Bush has meet twice with corrupt Kuwait sheiks who worship this man. The deal is to help the Baby get elected with high gas prices through the fall. No love for the present Administration but this gas hikem is as usual all poliitcs and the People suffer.

Prices of everything ,not just Knives, will skyrocket before fall as fuel prices cause all goods to rise in price.

Well, heck Ivan, elect me. I promise to treat you all alike... Just like crap.
Have you heard a better offer?
