I know I can’t be the only one. My family knows I like knives. Every year I get at least a couple, but they tend to not be knife people so I end up getting these super weird gas station quality knives.

Please show me your Gas Station Knife that you got for Christmas from a loved one. Also no, they aren’t for sale! They are sentimental! ;)

They both have major blade play, the top one got dull after cutting paper for the second time and is a chisel combo edge. The bottom one is spring assisted and has a seatbelt cutter, glass breaker, and the pivot falls out if you deploy it enough times. LOL!

Was waiting for a thread like this to come about, my Fiance's sister just knows I like knives, so got this double edged dagger, custom made, you can only get these things from Pakistan, that looks like it would take out a sentry or two.

I am thinking that with the ricasso soooo long, I could perhaps use this blade to make a classic switchblade knife when I have the tools to do so, maybe gift it back!

Then, this inexplicable medallion thing, with a hidden blade, sharpened on the belly side. Awesome, looks like some kind of Mexican narco-art.

I am sure these will furthur my skill in one way or another! Truly appreciate the thought though, and its always fun to get 'em.

That's gotta at least add some dexterity to your Dungeons and Dragons character if you equipped it

I know the feels.
My SO insists on buying gifts in person. And since we don't live near an actual knife shop, well, that limits her options

I got the same one as OP's bottom knife in a generic (Amazon probably) survival kit. It also included things like a wallet/card multi-tool, a ferro rod, a paracord bracelet, a wire saw, and my favorite, a spork with a removable handle that doubles as a whistle which slides off to reveal a knife on the rear of the tang with a bottle opener on the spine. It was a gift from my girlfriend's family and I appreciate it very much. Gonna stow it in the truck so I can make excuses to use some of the items when we do family 4-wheeling trips.

You should name it Pablo.

That’s the exact same kit I got with the knife inside if it. The ferro rod works surprisingly well!

I got this knife on December 21st:

Traded a Mora Companion to a homeless man for this awesome specimen.

It has assisted open, a seatbelt cutter and a glass breaker.
The partially serrated blade has had the tip snapped off, then fixed into basically a butter knife. AND is has been badly sharpened on various rocks, so you can safely run your hand with force along the whole length of the blade. :) It is possible to saw through rope with the serrations, but it takes a long time.

It is from the local gun shop; I remember when they had these cheap knives in there years ago. ;)

But it is what that man had for years as his only pocketknife.
He was super happy to get the Mora. He said "I can eat with this!" And you know what? He sure can. 🤔

Easily tied for my favourite thing I got this Christmas season...at least till Canada Post gets off their butts to deliver something that should have already been here.

How did that even happen? How does trading knives even come up in conversation with a homeless person? There's gotta be a story here.

Local community group started up going around doing homeless outreach, and I started heading out with them a bit. The man who had this knife is camped out in a ravine sort of area in downtown. Went there once with one of the people from the group, and more times on my own. Worked great, because the community group has funding I don't, and could provide things like the brand new set of cold weather gear (snow pants, coat, balaclava, toque, snowmobile mitts, and thick socks) that I brought out on the 21st. Email what people could use, swing by the office and pick it up to be delivered. I had seen the knife clip in his pocket on a previous visit, and figured he might like to trade for a better knife. Turns out I was right. :)

He's a pretty friendly guy in his 50s.
Like to smoke his weed and keeps to himself.
Talking to him for a few hours along the way paved the road to a point where trading a knife was part of a normal conversation.

Oh that makes more sense. Man, he probably likes the mora way more than the other knife.

Sure seemed like it. :)
Mora is certainly an all-around more useful knife. Better steel, more ergonomic handle (which is better in the cold too), and easier to clean.
