gasforge material trouble

Hello folks,

As always( :D ) I can't seem to find something in this boring part of europe. Besides my everlasting search for talonite (I'm close to giving up on it), this time I need Kaowoom aka ceramic wool, standard for isolating gasforges. I got the bruner(s) rigged (I used the mongo burner design from Ron Reill's page for basis), the housing is intact and stable..all I miss is isolation. I got the fireproof bricks too.

Now I can coat the insides with clay from cat-litter (not recycled, brandnew :D ), mixed with charcoalashes, but that takes such a darn long time to dry.

Anyone wanna help me out?
As always, I will make it worth your while.

Condolences to all americans and people of good will for what happend to the WTC ,the pentagon and the other plane(s).

take care over there.

greetz, bart.

Im sure yu have foundry's around your area.
Call them and ask for the material they patch there crusibles with. This material is wet in the bucket most often and can be painted on and fired.

I get my kaowool from a ceramics supplier. Check with local people that do pottery and find out where they get there supplies.
If you have a problem I can get Kaowool with no problem.

I couldn't find any Kaewool in my area when I built my gas forge. I used a mix of 1 part fire clay to 2 parts sand. It didn't take very long to dry and I fired the forge occassionally to speed it along. It is not a heavy duty lining, but mine has lasted for over a year now.

it is hard to find good clay here, so I use the kind of clay
derived from cat-litter, Belstain's idea and it works O.K. for me.

Is the addition of white sand neccesairy?
I mixed in a bit of charcoal ashes... maybe they need more?

greetz & thanks for the replies folks. Keep'm coming I'd say.

take care all

Chuck Bybee is or will soon be selling talonite. He is reliable and a reputable dealer. His e-mailis http-www.titanium-man.com Frank

About the ceramic wool, I found it.... in a stove building place. I helped the dude build a big gasburner, and he gave me like 2 meters x 2 feet. He shouldn't sell it, because they are a firm, and I am not, and legally, I cannot buy stuff from them... but with a little help :D

About Chuck Bybee.. He sounds O.K. from the mails, but I'm still waiting for a mail from him..maybe I better mail'm again.
And... I usually scare american dealers off if I tell them I'm european. But then..I usually send the money all in advance, so there is not really a way I can fool a dealer.

Greetz & thanks all for the help.

Bart.
