I have been looking at adding a high quality damascus knife to my collection.. is anyone familiar with their knives? They certainly look stunning... and the steel seems to be quite historical.

Some of this steel, especially Leopard (from Leopard 1 barrel), the Tirpitz (WW2 battleship "Tirpitz" armor) and the G3 are made in similar ways by Böker. Maybe the the steel came from the same source (the forge of Markus Balbach). In this case this would be good quality steel. I hope this helps a little bit.

Markus Balbach does NOT deal with Boker anymore and hasn't for years. Leopard damascus is a knock off by Boker, the real stuff is Leo-Damast from Markus Balbach. Some Boker's have Leo-Damast I, II, III and Leo-Damast IV, Eurofighter, those are forged by Markus. Leodamast is a registered TM by Markus. Tirpitz is supplied by GASTON J. GLOCK style LP.

Yes, I totally agree with Kris.
My point was: the "historical" steels are not as rare as you might think but - since most of them on the linked page ARE from Markus Balbach - are of good quality.
