Does anyone use the Gatco system on their Esee. I would like to keep mine scary sharp but i have never been able to get any knife as sharp as my Izzy was delivered from the factory. Which sharpeners would you recommend ? thanks

Sharpmaker,Sharpmaker,Sharpmaker

I suck at sharpening... but the Sharpmaker I can POP hairs!!!!

I use a smith fine diamond bench stone freehand. I don't really have much desire to use any system at this point. I will say it does take some time to get a feel for, but once you get a feel for freehanding you can sharpen anything (that's a figure of speech, you won't get a cutting edge on a wool sweater no matter how good you are.)

God bless,
Adam

Anything like that spyderco that doesn't cost $85? I bought a Smith diamond stone 325/750 grit but I'm way out of practice with freehand. I haven't used the 325 side that's too course. I have recently started to really get back into knives with my ESEE 4. So far I'm in love with it.

Would a natural 600 grit stone be better for freehand?

The lansky style sharpeners work well on some knives, but suck on ESEE and other knives with a similar grind. I prefer the Sharpmaker and freehand.

Another vote for the sharpmaker... I am a total sharpening newb and it works great for me.
