Okay, so what Busses classify as "Gateway drugs" into the world of INFI, or is that what the Scrapyard and Swamp are for?

Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard are the gateway blades (It all started with a Rat Hunter for me).

But some people, many in fact, skip the child's play and jump right into infi and financial ruin

You are so right, brother!

For me it was a couple mid-sized (Mud Razor and mini EU-17) and a couple GWs all from fine fellow forumites! (Thanks Guys!). I was hooked and had to do a FBM-LE. It is WAY more knife than I've ever thought of wanting but a real beauty....

I think Rats and Dogs are great and a cost effective way to get a taste but if INFI is in your blood I would think a knife in the realm of something you currently use would be your best first. If you use a 5" get a BATAC, if you use a 3" get a Warden but if you currently use a big chopper, wait for Skunk-man to get them on the Company Store.... I think starting with a knife similar to what you already use will give you the best feel for what INFI is all about.

Game Warden for me. Thought I could just try it once, Did 8 more in the next
10 days. Now I'm on the heavy stuff, FBMLE,HR and some Badgers

My first two were a Battle Rat and a Bandicoot. They are great blades for the price, even when jacked up a little on the resale market. My B-coot is a tough little bugger. It needs a pumped-up INFIcoot big brother though. In time:rolleyes:

I have since moved up to Busse, but I still think the Rats (and Dogs) are top notch tools and I hope to acquire quite a few more. I do have a Gen2 HR and an HR 5-tooth. I think of them not as 'gateway drugs', but rather those you take when you don't want to get completely F*&#ed up:D

Got me looking with the Bog Dog....was downhill fast after that.

Now I'm up to 2...maybe three INFI hits a month...

I can stop whenever I want though...

Quit asking questions and just git down to the sporting goods store and buy yourself a biiiiiiiiiig safe. You're gonna need it :D

Skip the safe. Save your money for blades and sheaths. Buy 'em and beat 'em. Then beat 'em some more. Oh, I guess you can keep those beaters in a safe if you want.:D :D

Good point - I beat some and save some, but they all stay in the safe so the rugrats don't get their grimy hands on 'em! Plus I've seen it hinted around these forums that some of the HOGS here aren't beyond sneaking around your house when you're off on vacation, tryin' to get their fix! They get desperate if they go into withdrawal for any length of time...Better safe than sorry (pardon the pun)!!!!:D

I hear they try to steal your wife or girlfriend too if they see the opportunity.

My gateway blade was an Assault Shaker off ebay! At the time I was in for a good neck knife. Now I'm hooked.

The Gateway is a trip to the Blade Show and a glance from Amy-O at the Busse booth!! ;)

I think there is a combination that defines gateway 1st. Being here on this forum begins the process, especially when ya look at all the pics that are here. Then comes the question and interest, AND finally the desire to purchase Busse. When you hit the 3rd step its too LATE!!! you are hooked!!!
  BTW my 1st Busse is a straight handle Battle Mistress and I'm currently waiting for my FBMLE.... Patience, patience my precious will arrive soon, soon. :p

The forums definitely did me in. I could have looked at the Busse site a hundred times and still probably passed it up. But no, I had to watch you guys work yourselves into a frenzy over this stuff, particularly the GW craze, and before you know it, I was addicted. I'm not sure if I should be grateful for this development, but I'm never at a lack for things to spend my money on these days.

From what I've seen thus far, I think that my "gateway" would be a good priced NO-E, or SFNO . . . if such things existed.

So, I think I'm safe for a while.
