Hi Everyone,

I'm a HUGE CRK fan and like to carry my knives in a pouch sheath. I started another thread (you may have seen it) asking about a black CRK slip pouch. It seemed like there was some interest in having a black pouch and someone suggested everyone contact CRK to express interest. I thought rather than bombarding CRK with calls/emails (I know they're very busy) - I would setup a thread to collect interest. We can then direct CRK to this thread.

Here is a quick mock-up of what the current pouch would look like in black.

If you're interested, vote for the size of pouch you would purchase.

I will let this run for a few weeks and see what type of interest there is. I will then reach out to CRK.

Cheers,

Rick

I kind of cringed a little in the other thread where I read about lots of people calling them to ask.
This seems like a much wiser approach.
I vote small, but if they're going to actually do it I'd imagine they'd do both.

I am not a big fan of black anything, but I think the pouch in black would be a nice change. Great thread idea, BTW.

I prefer pocket clip carry, but I am a fan of jet black leather products. Saddleback leather discontinued their standard black finish on their wallets and now has a carbon black color. Its basically a dark grey. Doesn't look nearly as nice in my opinion. If CRK made these pouches in black like that I'd probably pick one up and give it a try.

I applaud the effort to help CRK understand the demand for a new accessory. I'm no market analyst, however, I wonder how useful this poll will be to them. In order for a study to reveal if people will actually buy a product, the poll needs to integrate such factors as pricing, how many total voters participated in the study, and probably more. For example,
  • Going to extremes to illustrate the point: nearly everyone would vote to receive a free black pouch, virtually no one would pay $100 for a black pouch.
  • Poll results are meant to infer something about the larger population -- something like, "two out of 15 CRK buyers would buy a small or large black pouch" would be useful in estimating the value of increasing the product offering. In this poll, however, the choices are to buy a small or a large black pouch, but how many voters are indicating that they would not be interested by abstaining from the vote?

I'm sure I'm missing a lot. Market estimation is a really complex task. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your feedback. I agree the poll is by from ideal, but I felt it would give CRK an idea of the general interest level. Out of respect for CRK, I felt this would be an easy way for them to see their customers would like the option of purchasing the pouch in black, without bombarding them with separate emails/calls. Heck, if it was my company I would love to see this type of information from my customers. Free market research! :p

The current pouch retails for $25 - so I was assuming the price would stay the same. At a minimum it would be nice to be able to be able to order the pouch from CRK.

Here's to hoping.

The leather seems to have soaked up a good deal of the dye, I'll have to see tomorrow after it properly sets and I seal it but so far so good.

PS:

This is also the same Dye that I've redone my Micarta Insingo with darken up what I feel is a dingy gray. That was about a month ago and it's held up beautifully.

Anxious to hear how she turned out.

well brown is awesome, I have 3 glossy dark brown one and love them
but, a TAN and BLACK one would be a nice add on

I'm working on it now... lets see.

I have used this same exact dye when I made knife sheaths years ago for custom knives that I made. It has a strong odor, but when left outdoors for a few days, it goes away. It DOES NOT Fade in any way and truly is permeant....!!!

I votes YES for both, but only if it came for free with certain models..........like say, a black carbon fiber insingo for example. I don't see myself going out and buying a black one just to have it. I personally like the warm rich feel the brown one gives me.
