Gauging support for a James Longstreet / Stefan "Sticky" photo thread

Anyone who's browsed this sub forum for any length of time will eventually come across the photos, and knives of "James Longstreet" / AKA our friend in Germany, Stefan. It's not difficult to argue that his photos are some of the best knife photos, of any brand, on bladeforums, or perhaps the internet in general. We are very are lucky to have him in the CRK club. I know it would be unusual for one forum contributor to have a sticky thread of their own, but I think in this case we are dealing with a unique talent, that deserves to be highlighted. The photos so far are a body of work that really shouldn't be lurking in the back pages of this sub-forum IMHO.

Whether or not Stefan would want to make this contribution would be his call, but personally I would strongly support having a dedicated sticky thread for his photography. I think the photos do a lot to reveal the beauty of these knives, give CRK newbs something to drool over, represent a lot of work and preparation that we all casually benefit from, and generally pay fitting tribute to Chris Reeves great sense of design.

What do you all think? I'm for it.
 
Just saw the pics in the new thread he just started Cody........I would LOVE to be able to browse lots of his pictures!!

I'm a huge fan of his pics, but this can become a slippery slope. There are, and have been, other really talented photographers in here, and many would deserve a sticky too. So where would you draw the line?
 
I suppose I respectfully disagree on the slippery slope, but understand what you are getting at. I think there's some common sense left in the world, and Stefans photos are so far above what others are achieving, I think there is a clear division. I'm pretty proud of a few of my CRK shots, but would not be vying for a thread of my own.

I'd say we give the forum the benefit of the doubt. I think the forum would benefit from the proposed sticky, it would not be diminished by it.

Anyways.......my two bits.
 
Absolutely would love to see a sticky with professional quality pics such as Stefan's.
Of course he would own it and could be the judge of higher quality pics if someone else feels their photo's are of the same quality.
It may curb some of the butthurt as well as create some. It would be fun to have and might invoke folks to dust off their skills.
 
Oh how I would love to have a thread full of the great quality pics that Stefan graces us with.
It's easily doable, especially the way this subforum's stickies are set up now.

Who is allowed to showcase their pics in the thread? Would Stephan simply lock the thread when he was done posting pics?
How is this different than the Pics only threads in the stickies?

For sure, I am not against adding a thread of Stefans to the sticky thread list..just would like to know how the aforementioned questions would be addressed.
 
I think it could be a "curated" thread, similar to Nyefmakers thread about CRK timeline history.

I don't know quite how that is accomplished, but that would be the intent.

Of course, we are kind of discussing this without input from the concerned party. Hopefully, while being the modest guy he is, he would also embrace this idea.
 
Good morning from your Germany chapter :-)

First of all I feel honored by your appreciation. Even a bit overwhelmed, so to speak. My 1st picture thread was the Unique Graphic with blue star sapphier inlay, back in September 2014. Of course I have them all available through my watchlist. All together there are something like 35 to 37 picture threads I have made here.

I think setting up a sticky where I just incorporate the 35, 37 individual thread links is easily done and easily maintained, also for adding picture threads in future.

Only point I have is that although I am feeling pleased by your enthusiasm for my pics, I don't want my pictures to be seen as a kind of "benchmark", keeping others away from posting their pics. The enthusiasm for our hobby should not be jugded by the quality of the pictures taken, but by the fact that we are sharing our love for CRK knives with others. Whether it is by words or by pictures of whatever quality.

I am open for any proposal on how to administrate such sticky and keeping it open for other individual picture threads to be added.

Only "rule" I would suggest to apply is that such thread should be only a picture presentation and not discussion threads (except the ususal comments on the pics presented) and it shouldn't be neither a kind of miscellaneous picture thread nor one of the maintenance picture threads. It should be a thread where either 1 single or a group of CRK knives is presented through a number of pictures.

We have a couple great photog's here I'd hate to have a thread limited to just one no matter how talented. The only thing I'd like to see change is perhaps the pictures of your folders stickied and a pictures of your fixed blades added. That way we separate the pictures from discussion.
 
Each photog could start their own thread and that thread, with admin approval, could be linked in a sticky (like we do with the other stickies).
