Gave a knife to a coworker

I gave a 110 I had sitting around to one of my coworkers, I bought it at WalMart with a gift card but didn't really want/need another one. He opened it and closed it, on his finger. The tip stuck right in below the nail and nicked that little vein and he bled all over the place, luckily it was outside. I was fairly amused, within a minute he had managed to slice his finger. I got him to carry one though.

I try to teach people how to open and close a knife before i give it to them even if they are just using it for a minute. Safety first!

I've seen him open and close several of my lockbacks without a problem before. Maybe he just didn't expect it to close as fast as it did.

That's a nice gesture for your coworker. As the saying goes, 'No good deed goes unpunished...'

On the other hand, there's another school of thought that says, 'A knife isn't truly yours until it's tasted your blood.' Always best to get that out of the way early on. Now he officially OWNS IT! :p

My grandfather always said a knife is just a dangerous as a gun. I never really understood what he meant antil I seen a knife accident similiar to your coworkers. Knife safety is extremely if you are going to carry a knife.

Don't let this happen to you...

Hi GWashington1732 -

I gave one of my Kershaw Leeks to a friend who was visiting and expressed an interest in my knives.

He, too, cut himself almost instantly; even though I gave the requisite "owners familiarization course" to him, and warned him that I had sharpened this one for my own daily use.

It bit him on the tip of his finger in less than 30 seconds.

My mother always used to say that if someone gives you something sharp, you have to give them a penny, or you will cut yourself.

I just say be familiar with the knife and be careful and you will be fine.

My friend seemed to love his new blade, I saw him flicking it open several times over the holiday. I think he is a new Kershaw fan.

best regards -

Ouch! I actually did slice the end of my thumb off with a box cutter when I started work at the local grocery store as a kid. I had forgotten that my other hand was riding a little high on the backside of a piece of cardboard. Slice and off it came.

I cleaned it up real fast and slammed it back on and made an "x" of bandaids to apply downward pressure. Then, I left it alone for a couple days. It took! But my fingerprint is a little off line.

Very cool "GW" I seem to have given away a dozen or so VIC and or Wenger SAK's this year alone. Luck being with me, no blood as of yet. But I never hear the end of it from the people who received them. They are always telling me how much they use them.:D I always make them give me a coin or a ink pen for the sake of superstition...;)

:)

Cool of you GW. I gifted a Kershaw Select Fire to 2 coworkers at Christmas last year. They really helped out a lot at work so I fugured they should have a decent knife in their pocket. I also gifted 4 Spyderco Tenacious knives to family/friends, and by brother in law recieved a Kershaw Blur in S30V.

I recently gave a friend of mine a CRKT Drifter. A few days later he came up to me and told me that to his surprised he had actually used it twice. I was very proud until he admitted that he had forgotten how to close it (it's a framelock) and could I show him? But still, I'm glad he's using it. :) Don't think he's cut himself yet though....

Man, that sucks. Did you bust out the classic "have to amputate!" joke? :p
Strange I stumble across this post as I gave a few knives to a couple co-workers today.. they had been asking me to get them a knife ever since I started getting a few shipments a week. They went from your crazy to "those are pretty cool," but don't want to spend more than $30-40.
I'll ask them if the cut themselves tomorrow, but since they were users and could use a sharpening (the price was right so they didn't complain), I doubt they could do much damage... but who knows.
