Sorry guys, but expect a bit of rambling, its been a long time since I've started a thread. :)

So I have a friend I worked with doing coaching and manual labor last summer that I got fairly well acquainted with. At the end of the summer he started a job with the border patrol. Now he is a heck of a guy, just one of those good natured, well grounded wears his heart on his sleeve kinda guys. So theres the background for you.

So last summer as we're working at setting up for the Regatta we run, we're cutting a lot of 3/4+ diameter nylon rope, which if you've worked with it, doesn't take knots well, and is a bear to cut. My friend is using a Buck ghostrider, not a bad knife, but not all that great. Touched it up a few times and it made it through the day.

Flash forward to now, he's been on duty for a while now, and all I can picture is him carrying that cheapo china buck day in and day out, and as we're sitting at the bar, I get to thinking, "Man, this guy needs a better knife..." My first thought is the Spyderco tenacious my recent ex got me that I can't bring myself to carry/use, but once we're in the parking lot and I tell him to hold on because I've got something for him, I'm thinking, "Man, after hearing all that stuff about how tough the Border Patrol can be, the tenacious isn't going to cut it (excuse the pun)" So I offer him the Tenacious, or my Izula with a cord wrap and molle lock. In case you haven't figured, he chose the Izula, being the bright well grounded guy he is. :) Guys got taste what can I say.

So my story has two points.

1) If you haven't gifted a good knife to a guy or gal you know will appreciate it, then please do, because:

2) Mike Tyson couldn't punch this giant goofy grin off my face right now.

Now about those orange Izulas I saw...:D

EricV, I can guarantee you this will come full circle back to you. I have done the same thing only with fishing gear. I did not believe in karma until I met my wife 16 years ago, and she has now made a believer of me. Enjoy the thought you brightened someone's day, you helped him believe good things do still happen, & most important, probably made a good friend for the rest of your life. My hat is off to you, my man . . .

Great story. It puts a smile on my face as well. Remember, we always reap what we sow, so you have good things in store.

Awesome brother, well done. It always feels amazing to give somebody a gift like that, and you know he will be using it hard just like it was meant to. This will come come back to you good karma always will, I am a huge supporter of the "pay it forward" mentality and love to see when other people are too.

I did the same for my nephew. I put an orange wrap on a black Izula and the knife is his constant edc. He was surprised when he got the Izula with the kit and became an instant convert.

Good story my man.

I recently gave an Izula to a good buddy and the look on his face was awesome. He uses it everyday and really likes it.

Great post. That's what it's all about. Thanks!

Awesome story, brother. I have to agree with you, there is just something about it. I give knives to folks in need quite often. Its the side effect of having alot of knives, lol. But whats better, is teaching someone who had never carried a knife, the value of having a good knife with them. Moose

I've bought a couple of knives for family members and good friends....
Always gave me a great feeling.

To the OP - way to go, man!

So you are Izula-less right now? That's a hell of a gesture, man.

I bought an ESKABAR when they became available, and a guy I work with who has never carried a knife before had expressed interest in my Izula. After I got the ESKABAR, I decided to give it to him so that he could enjoy a quality blade on his person every day, and it also wouldn't hurt to have another knife geek around...

Very nicely done! More people should be generous, the world would be a better place.
