Picked up this Hunter second hand from AZK a couple weeks ago. Showed a some signs of previous use so I decided to give it a massage so I can give it my own use marks instead :D
Been working on my handle making skills in my limited spare time for when I start making knives in a few years.

Time to fire up the buffer. Fair warning, sharp knife+high speed buffer = a great way to kill yourself if you don't know what your doing. Kung Fu grip, light touch and don't let it get hot. I usually work on multiple areas at once to keep from getting any one spot too hot.

Little in progress compared to the stock Ness monster. Got the blade cleaned up and started cleaning up the handle.

Finished for now, Need to order in some finer grits for my wheels.

Compared to the rest, wow! Only spent about an hour or so on it. I suck at taking pics but it is one good looking piece now, just need to put a good edge on it and it's ready to go to work.

I really like the maroon linen combo these days, I didn't at first until I got one and now they seem to be multiplying.

That looks amazing... Did you use some sort of product with the buffer? Also what equipment did you use? I suppose a dremel would be too small or abrasive depending on the attachment?

I have an 8" buffer setup with a sisal wheel and a buffing wheel. Just used regular buffing compounds green, white and black.

Great work dude; I personally don't use a buffing wheel but your results are excellent!

Job well done!

That looks really cool with a shine! Really turns it into a different knife!!!!!!!!

Holy crap! Nothing wrong with your photographic skills from where I'm standing, man. Didn't know micarta to be able to take on such a shine, looks amazing... Thanks for sharing!

I don't even think I get such a high shine after waxing the cars. Nice job, that looks like a display piece now.

Would be cool to see how it looks in a year after some use and character is added back to it

I've seen my share of micarta, I've never seen, nor did I realize, that micarta could get that shiny. That's crazy! I'm guessing g10 would be easier. May try that myself, but I'm kinda freaked out by the buffer. If ya ain't even a little afraid, you haven't used one enough. ;)

Lol, yea that thing can really get away from you fast. I'm not much into having a mob name like sky two finger. I wrap the pointy end in a shop towel and keep the death grip locked on. I'll see if I can get it any shiner once the new grits get in. I'm really tempted now to see what the natural bolsters on the asp would look like.

Nice work Sky! The maroon hasn't been my favorite, but man did that sure polish up. As other's have said, I didn't think it could get that shiny. Good job on the tang and spine too.

Hrm... This has got me wondering.

Is the scale material phenolic micarta, or Shadetree? I know fod uses clear aero epoxy resin. Maybe that's what accounts for the available finish? I've seen paper micarta get pretty slick (Spyderco sometimes does this), but not linen.

I wouldn't use the Dremel. I've tried polishing steel (even with a large buff) and it always comes out spotty. Might work to get you to where you could finish by hand. Not sure.

That's too funny. My brother Richard injured his hands on a table saw last year--surgery, rehab, the whole 9 yards. Anyway, before he started getting movement back, his loving spouse started calling him "Dickie One Thumb." It kind of stuck.
