Eariler I reported that B-72 works. Well it does and doesn't.
It soaks into the wood fine. I'm sure it helps 'stabilize' it. But it isn't the same as the hard finish you get from the commercial stuff. Don't get me wrong I have 2 finished knifes with B72 and they are fine.
If you use a wood finish, like danish oil, or something, then a pretreat with b-72 is swell. But I like the commercially hard stuff (K&G) just too much to change.
Also for antler (and I suppose bone) the stuff is fantastic. Just what the doctor ordered: hard thru and thru, doesn't effect color much, ...
Steve
PS I didn't try pressure - just vacuum. (I even soaked under vacuum for over a week.) Maybe pressure makes a difference with wood??? Has anyone tried that? What pressure?
