I have one of the earlier models that has the solid, heavier liners. Does anyone see an issue with disassembling the knife and having a water jet remove some small areas of the liners to make the knife lighter? Can Spyderco do something like that?

I have considered simply switching it out for the lighter version, but I have had my knife modded slightly and I am not prepared to give up the mod to get a lighter knife at this point. To get the new knife modded in the same way would likely be a PITA.

I'd talk to any of the machinists on the forums here. Josh at Razor Edge Knives would be my recommendation. Drilling holes or reliefs would be fairly simple. You could always look up pics of the milled liners on the newer version and have them match the holes.

This. Don't give up the knife you've already grown to love. Might as well keep modding it. Not like you need warranty, anyway haha.

Pics. Steve Ketchen matched the milling on the liners with these scales he just finished for me. Pics his.

Thanks for the pics and info folks! Looks like I should be able to get this done without too much difficulty.
