If availability is no problem what is the best lube out there for my GB. I use break free on my guns, but I feel there is something better for my STRIDER.

I use CLP Breakfree on the cosmetic areas of my guns and knives, as well.

For knife pivots, especially for EDC's, I use a black molebdenum disulfide grease (moly grease). The only problem is when you get this stuff on your clothes. But then, I could care less if the INSIDE of my jeans pockets get stained, as long I have good lubrication.

I would have no problem with just using Breakfree as the main lube if that's all that was available.

The brass in the pivot is already oil impregnated, but if you want more, just use WD-40 or similar oils. Maybe Kroil. I've used it on my guns for quite a while. Works great.

Knifebomber,
I have read that WD-40 is dangerous to use on firearms. Their has been documented cases were law enforcement officers have gotten killed due to the WD-40 making their ammo usless! From what I remember, WD-40 is a super penitraiting lube, and if its near the ammo, it can work its way into the primers. If this happens the primer may not work. The case that was shown to us in my Police Acadamy was were a police officer that cleaned his duty revolver with WD-40, and walked into the middle of a armed robbery. He was shot, and when they checked his weapon, all six rounds in the pistol had hammer struck primers and none fired. Just trying to give you a heads up, incase you did not know. Modern ammo is sealed well, but one misfire at the wrong moment may mean the difference between life and death.
Thanks, Reagan

Yeah, NEVER use wd-40 on ANY weapon, including knives you carry. I remember someone saying something else about WD-40 that was another very good reason to NOT use it, but I forget.

What were we talking about?...:p

www.militec-1.com ALL the way! Use it on guns, knives, collapsible batons... the stuff is AMAZING!!! Wonder what would happen if you used it instead of motor oil... Hmmm.... BRB... ;)

Seriously, do a search on it, and you will see the stuff is HIGHLY recommended.

The best stuff that I have personaly used is the Fluorinated Grease from Chris Reeve. It's good and thick so it doesn't go everywhere and a little dab will do. I know that may be taboo to use CR greese on a Strider, but it works good and the applicating tube is almost worth the price alone. Kind of a self sealing hypodermic needle design.

what drjones said, it's all i use. works better than any other lube on firearms and knifes. it's thicker than other lubes, doesn't run or evaporate as quickly. doesn't attact as much crap as grease or messy either. BM uses and sells it exclusively.

I also use Militec on my firearms. It's the best lube that I know of and it seems to work great on folding knives as well.

I use FP-10 (CLP), or Tetra-Lube, or Wilson's Ultima Lube. (All work very well on my knives and guns).

Thanks for the heads up guys. I don't actually use WD-40 on my weapons. Only Breakfree and Kroil. If WD is what is on hand, I have no problems putting it on my knives. They won't misfire, hehe.

WD-40 is great stuff - for what it was designed for. It was designed as a water dispersant (W-D, get it?) and it does a fine job at that. It also evaporates which is why it is not a good choice for long term corrosion protection.

Knives are not a difficult apparatus to lubricate. They are relatively slow speed, fat tolerance, low pressure mechanical mating bearing surfaces. Truth be told, a clean yet dry knife, given todays bushing and other materials would work just fine. I knife lubricated with motor oil (an excellant corrosion protecting lubricant) would work fine as well. The better lubes that you guys mention just make the knife work all the better.

With that said, I use the CRK Flourinated grease and/or Militec on my folders with the blades and exposed surfaces getting a light treatment of either mineral oil or motor oil depending on whether or not they will be used with food.

Well that's all fine and dandy with the various greases and all but what if you can't get the friggin AR apart? :p :)

You guys mention a lot of great lubes and protectants... I have had my big Buck Strider out in the snow and rain and it once took a swim with me in Lake Mead... and other then drying it off I didn't do much else other then constant use...So I don't know that any of these lubes are needed but hey whatever knocks ya out... Taking it apart.....hehehe Silly knife maker....
