Does anyone have any experience with the Gransfors Swedish Carving Axe or Broadaxe? I'm interested in an axe to rough longbows to shape from split logs. I have several other GB axes and love their quality and feel.

Thanks,
jcole

I dont but i am getting my first GB next week. Im getting the double bit.
have you got it?
If so whats it like??

They do look they are very well made.

I cant wait to chop something with it.

I don't have that particular model, but I do have four others and a splitting wedge from GB. I'm sure that big double bit will speak with authority when you start to chop. GB axes feel wonderfully 'alive' compared to standard hardware store fare, a real pleasure to own and use.

B.C I have the doublebit and it's shaving sharp the only thing I dont like is the two edge covers bit naff there are two modles of this axe one has a shorter handle and is the thrower the other has a slytly longer handle and is the one I have IT'S VERY GOOD :D

I was watching a TV show last night about a group from England who is trying to make to scale some of leonardo Davinci designs. One of the designs was an 80 foot crossbow and they were carving this huge bit of wood with im sure a couple of GB sweedish broadaxes.
They also showed a bit were the workers were having a break and were throwing the GB double bit axes at a target.

I got all excited and told my MRS that is the axe ill have next week.
She wasnt excited as me!

I have the GB Swedish carving axe and absolutely love it. It is nearly flat on on the side in contact with the wood and beveled on the other (if you are right handed) It is shaving sharp from the factory and because of its unique bevel it is capable of performing very shallow slicing type cuts or more deep aggressive chops. Choke up on the head of the axe and use it like a knife to remove bark or stay inside of one growth ring for the back of a self-bow. I have not made a self bow with mine yet but i am certain that it will work well for that purpose. I believe you could replace the draw shave completely.
