Ordered a flat ground AR but when I opened the box, low and behold a hollow ground GB #54. I called T.A.D. to see if there was a mistake and if I needed to send the knife back. The guys at T.A.D. said the mistake was theirs and I could keep the knife if I wanted to. That's customer service to the highest order. Now I will only buy striders from T.A.D. and I still need to get the flat ground AR.:D

Sounds like what Sidewinder and Iverson were saying - destiny. Plus its a great excuse to get a second Strider right away.

Excuse my ignorance. I'm new to Striders. But why are you apparently happy that they sent you the wrong knife if an AR is really what you wanted?

I'll take a stab at this - Both the GB and AR are excellent folders. Getting a numbered GB (and hollow ground - not made anymore) is really a good thing. You can always get an AR later (not necessarily a nunmbered one) or he can sell the higher valued GB and get an AR and pocket the difference. Can't really loose. It's hard to explain. Besides it's like the knife was meant for you. I have an AR that is made of BG-42 but is stamped ATS-34. Am I upset that it is that way? Hell no, it's a great knife and it's kinda endearing to me that it has that mistake, it's my knife.

Getting a numbered GB instead of a regular AR, it's one of those mistakes that works in your favor. Most of the time you get what you want. Serendipitous "mistakes" don't happen all the time but when they do it sometimes better than what you originally wanted. I know that TAD would have gladly fixed the mistake if Smitty wanted it, but I suspect that he might just like the GB and keep it. Once you start collecting Striders, you'll see what I mean.

Harrydog the guys at tad were more than willing to make up for the mistake, but I was more than willing to keep the knife. I wanted the AR because I love flatground knives, but after holding the gb the first strider folder i've ever held I knew I had to keep it. Like sidewinder said it was like fate.:p Besides I can get a flatground ar anytime.

Sidewinder hit the nail on the head from my perspective. I have both versions of the GB (hollow ground and flat ground) from personal sales. The hollow ground sits in my safe for a possible future sale (Yeh-Right) and the flat grind is for the most part attached to my hip. Both are excellent but, its just to hard for me to think of using something that I know will increase in value. That numbered, hollowground GB is what determined that my next knives are only going to be Striders. My destiny has been determined! My destiny is Strider!
Long Live the Bad-A$$ blades of Strider.

Thanks again Mick and Duane,

Gentlemen

I understand the collectors value you have. The striders I own that are a little battle scarred are the ones I cherish. Call me crazy but I look forward to roughing up my D-9. When I am old as dirt I hope my memory serves me well enough to remember where I got the scars from.

I admit, I would probably lock up the numbered blade myself.

On my runs its typically the guy with the well worn running shoes that I fear not the one with the clean pair.

Sorry to disapoint everyone but I took the GB to work today. Numberd or not it's the baddest folder I've ever seen. I don't think I could hurt it and the guys at work that can't believe I spend hundreds of dollars on a knife want this one.

Can somebody explain to me a lttle bit about the numbered Striders?
Is it just the first run of a new design that is numbered? How many do they usually make?
At this point, will there ever be more numbered folders made?
Thanks!

I just received AR#41 from DarkNemesis to go with my GB#54. I Had to trade a beloved freind to get it but I think it was worth it. All I need now is to find someone to trade me their GB#41 for my GB#54 and I'll be set.;) Next is a flatground AR in s30v then I'll be happy... maybe :D
