GB has some minor rusting

I knew it would happen and was waiting for it. I carry my GB on my pant waist next to my hip with the knife between my pants and body. Whether its from rain, snow, or sweat the blade has a bit of rust on it only on the side that faces my body.

Whats the ideal way to get this rust back off? Scotch brite pads? Wire brush? Nylon brush?

Try some '000' steel wool, followed by an application of 'Fluid Film', which prevents rust with just the thinnest coating.

I use Flitz. Put a thin coat on the rust, rub it in a little bit with a popsicle stick, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off with a towel. This method will prevent scratches, swirl marks, etc that steel wool or Scotch brite pads can sometimes cause, IMO.

Always works for me if it's just surface rust. Flitz also says it prevents future rust, but I use Tuf-Glide anyway. I haven't had any rust on my GB yet, or any other M4 knives.

Good luck!

This is why I don't own any M4 knives, you have to baby them a little too much for my tastes. Everyone has their own preferences, but I don't like having to care for a blade that much nor do I like the look of a patina. I wish it were more rust resistant because it's edge holding abilities are pretty outstanding I hear.

I disagree. Wiping down your blades isn't much work (at least, not as much as sharpening). Even setting a patina isn't hard.

I think the capabilities of CPM M4 heavily weigh out the maintenance.

I would get some fine steel wool, spray the blade down with a fine solvent, scrub, rinse, blow excess solvent off with compressed air, wipe down. Done.

I don't like the look of a patina. I live in louisiana, so a little wipe down wont cut it. I had a gb and I kept it tuff clothed, I carried it for a couple days and started to see a little rust setting in on where my thumb rested behind the gimping. I sold it after that. I'll stick with more stainless steels. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, if I lived in a more dry area I would love to carry a GB.

I have a forced patina on my GB...I like the patina look Much Better than

plain m4. My m4 millie is starting to get a natural patina too.

No problems with rust on my m4 Spydies.
