Differences? The Mini cost about 50-60 more and is a smaller model.

looking to pick one of these up in the next week and wanted the Forums thought.

thanks in advance

split the difference and get the new Kubben/hand hatchet. Santa brought me one last week and it has the same exact head as the wildlife model but a shorter and thicker handle. The handle is about a good 2" shorter than my mini, but designed for an angle to carve. The hand hatchet is the lowest priced model as it was $107. The mini is an awesome piece and I'm thankful I got mine several years ago when it was half the price at $80. I'd be a tad reluctant to pay $160 today, but its still worth it. Just 12oz!:D The wildlife is a great hatchet too, but the mini and Kubben are very unique to me. You cant go wrong with any GB axe:).

The mini costs so much more because the relatively small and slim head is difficult to forge and GB only has one worker (LP) who makes them. I'd say that the Wildlife is a good choice for a 14", but if you're wanting to go 10", just get a GB Kuben or the Wetterlings 10"er unless you really want the lighter weight and slimmer head.

what I have heard(for what that may be worth) is it is harder to make smaller hatchets.

I own both and I would get the mini, it is a take everywhere size and very handy. and later if you want you could get a larger beater (cheaper) hatchet for the dirty work and not beat as upset if you ding it up. I know my local Ace has Collins hatchets and axes around 12 or 15 inches long for $20 or less, these would compare to the wildlife in size.

I own a Wettlings in wildlife size too. and I like it better than the GB wildlife, even though it needed sharpening when it came compared to how most GB show up freaky sharp, but it just fits my hand better. It is an old style Wetterlings, not a new GF Wett. model.

P.S. there are other hatchets coming out with a shorter handle now at 8 to 10 inches, but they are just not as refined as the mini GB once people get one, about all them comment on how it just seem to come to life in their hand and how useful it is.

If you really want a Mini then I'd probably go for it now as GB usually increases their prices by March 1st. Eventually the mini will be creeping upwards of 2 Benjamins . Its such a neat little bugger, but you sure arent getting a value on materials when you compare it to the larger Scandinavian Forest Axe that goes for around $120. Wildlife is a great bang for your buck. I just measured my Mini and the handle is 10.5", while my Kubben/hand hatchet is 9.5", so they are close, but the Kubben is about double the weight and more stout. Choices:D

thanks for the help

im probably going with the wildlife hatchet from GB for price.

just looking to put the axe on the pack and getting the most with least amount of weight
