Took my GB apart today to put a patina on it. Here's the result after 6 hours in Heinz cider vinegar (somebody said they make the best stuff), with a little prodding once in a while to get rid of bubbles that build up on the blade.
Could probably get it darker with a little more soaking, but I want to preserve some of the shine. It's almost always above 90% humidity and 30 degrees celsius where I live, and sweaty pockets had started to get red rust around the thumbhole. This should protect it a bit.
Unfortunately while I was trying to pry it apart (it's tough), I dropped one of the washers, and after hours and hours of searching I just could not find it :grumpy:
So I made this from an old plastic file I had
It happens to be the same thickness as the bronze washer and the hole is just a tad over 3/16". Opening and closing is stiffer now but the blade is perfectly centered
Should do me fine till I can get another set of washers.
