Hello. I'm looking for a high end axe for hiking/camping. I'm pretty sure i want it to be around the 18 inch length. I have read and heard snow and neally & gransfors bruks are some of the best. What do you think?

save yourself some cash and go with a Wetterlings
will do the job just fine

Snow and Nealley forges their heads in China and heat treats them here. GB's are hard to beat!

I know Gransfors Bruks is good. I am very satisfied with mine, and intend to buy more.

I just don't happen to know anything about Snow and Nealy. Their reputation has been good.

I do know that if in doubt, you can't go wrong choosing GB.

I'll second the Gransfors and Wetterlings. I have them both and they can take a serious sharp edge!!

I have used dozens of axes. I own at least eight. I will never waste my money on anything but a GB unless I want it to be expendable. If your axe isn't a Gransfors Bruks, your knife will do a better job.

Between the 2, I would take the GB....

...but for $39.99 plus shipping, you could get a 20" Wetterlings from SMKW. I just got their sales flyer yesterday which has 6 different Wetterlings to chose from.

For a nice bag tool with a 19"haft and a 1.25Lb head this will work as many tools including an axe, They do not make many of these and they are part of their traditional old line of tools. These run about $325 they are easy to sharppen but not a true belt hawk because of the weight.
All else is very positive. I have used mine to take apart a large hog. About 300lbs.Cuts wood like an axe.

They have a good selection and are very good to deal with.
Small family run company.
