So I have had the Gayle Bradley 1 for a few years now. Maybe I am a blaspheme, but in the time that I have had it, honestly, I am just not feeling the love. Don't get me wrong - the steel is great, the fit and finish are superb, and opening it is as smooth as silk. I also think that Spyderco makes many superb products. I am particularly partial to the Endura, Military, and Para 2. I don't think it is the weight of the knife that turns me off as I have an Ontario Retribution 2 which I love. With all due respect I think I just don't care for its overall appearance. Maybe I am being fickle or petty, but I don't think so; I think it is just my personal tastes and preferences.

I know that the appearance of the Gayle Bradley 2 on the scene is highly lauded by many people and I know the Gayle Bradley 1 has a huge fan base. So am I the only odd duck in the flock? Any other odd ducks out there? Enquiring minds want to know! ;)

Nah, the shape definitely is odd when you put it up against the other knives out there in its price range and intended-use categories. But that's why I did this to all my GBs:

its a utilitarian knife!really on the other side of the PM2, and gayle bradley 1) is not even a good EDC for most people! i have three of them i got mostly as a investment thinking that one day soon! i may fetch double the price i paid who no's! but i would hang on to it in any case, just my thoughts .

I like the GB1. It is the non-traditional appearance that pulled me in. It is heavy duty with great steel.

The GB1 is pure utilitarian effectively executed. I personally do not LOVE the PM2. the PM2 is the guy doing squats and being real loud about it...the GB1 is the guy who asks to work in and then overhead presses the same weight for reps.

I like the different appearance of the knife and unique blade shape. The CF handle looks classic and changes appearance in different lighting. The steel blade hold a very serious edge. Perhaps a little on the heavy side for some however like so many things in life - it comes down to what you are used to. I think it remains a very special Spyderco for many well engineered/design reasons..

The GB1 is a classic and I think will be collectible. The GB2 looks great. It's a little more svelte. Have to see if it feels less rugged.

I had two and were at one time my favorite Spydie, but now I have none. Didn't enjoy it as EDC because of the bulk and wouldn't really choose it as a work knife because the ergos aren't great IMO and I'd rather have G10, FRN, or even sandblasted titanium for heavy use. The lock was literally a pain too. On the other hand, the blade grind is awesome, very smooth action, and premier fit and finish...but not enough to make it a keeper for me.

I still consider it possibly the best value out there at the $150 mark. Slightly used, even better.
