How many times have we seen this post - what do you guys and gals carry your gear in? Well, hopefully this one is a little different, here's why...

For years, I did the standard, wallet in rear pocket of Levis, keys in front pocket, change in front pocket.

About the time of 9/11, I was heading off into a more "tactical" lifestyle, we had just finished building a new house and I was trying to be more prepared. I started wearing BDUs for the added pockets, heavier duty material, price, and the ankle drawstrings (I do a lot of metal detecting and those keep the bugs from crawling up your legs!). This is when I thought I'd try something different - carrying a butt pack in front with my wallet, cellphone, pager, ballpoint pen, bandanna, OC, extra set of keys, change, and hand sanitizer. I carried my Emerson Commander in my front pocket, and everything else in my butt pack. It worked well, but the butt pack got to be heavy and I started feeling self-conscious about the geeky pack :)

So, now I'm back to carrying wallet in rear pocket, Commander in front right pocket, change in left, and keys in other rear pocket, pager on belt, and cellphone in rear pocket. Obviously, this leaves me vulnerable to pickpockets, losing things, and discomfort. I'm looking for a better system...

Perhaps a smaller buttpack? Perhaps a better wallet than my velro/cordura "surfer" wallet? I'm looking for suggestions for a good compromise between carrying what I need (wallet, knife, cell/pager, keys) and safety against loss/theft. The closest thing I've found that's worthwhile looks like the SpecOps Wallet, or their BDU pocket organizer, or possibly some of the stuff from New Sun Gear...

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

check 'em out! I am looking to get their Thermite pack thingy, the smaller version of the fatboy. I want to carry a spare light, multi-tool, monocular, paper, pen(s), wallet, keys, and maybe a few other things. The Thermite thingy is small yet large enough to carry all of this stuff in an organized manner. Plus, you can go from shoulder carry to hip carry to leg strap carry! Options are good. Since they make a big range of small gear holders, I bet you'll find something you like.
