Went to Gear Fest here in Ohio yesterday. http://www.metroparks.org/GearFest/Home.aspx

I found a few things there, I had been looking to get. I ended up getting two Nalgene water bottles. I bought the blue one first and than came across the Mossy oak and liked it.

Also I have been wanting to get a small light weight trowel to have in the pack for hikes, just in case, and came across this little guy. Very strong, made out of Lexan.

So that leads me to this morning. Wake up this morning nice cool air ( love this time of year) sun coming up. I wake up my daughter and tell her its time for our hike. (she went to gear fest with me last night and I told her we would go hiking today) Needles to say shes excited. We eat and off we go.

There is this old pine forest (about two and a half acres) that was planted in the middle of surrounding wood lands and thats were we are heading. We are going on our first fatwood hunt.
Sadie thinks shes found some (dog)

All in all it was a great hike. We did get some fat wood from some downed pines but they weren't all that recent. I would rate our score as a 2, on a scale of 1-5, 5 being prime resign soaked fatwood.
So we head home. Upon arrival I head out back to baton the wood into small pieces. As I am cleaning one piece up, I get careless with my Mora and well,........... Its still a nice slicer...........:D

Warning blood splater...

Cool pics, I love that one pic of your daughter and you dog.

That is the one Mora I think I really want to give a go.

Thanks Ratamahatta.

Thanks Mistwalker.
I absolutely love this Mora. Grippy handle. Most people don't care for the color but thats why I liked it, its different. Its very sharp good for fine work, and excellent for batoning. Its been my work horse since I got it, a few months back.

I like the shape and I love the color. I need to spend some time with a scandi grind and that one's looking like a great candidate

Truly Awesome pics, good knife, and as I can see, you ARE a red blooded american. No vulcan in you, lol. Good harvest too. Moose

Too bad about the slice
Good field time with the daughter
Thanks for posting

Good stuff! Looks like a good day. Just curious, what make axe is that?

Thanks,
Just your run of the mill hardware store Axe. I sanded the handle and re stained with an Old English Min wax stain.
I'm hoping to get a nice Axe this Christmas. Trying to figure out what would suit me best, so I've been reading what others use around the forum.

Looks like you had a good time with your little one, I really like seeing trip pix of people with there families in the "bush" . It's one of the most important things you can teach them, unfortunately most of the "new world" is loosing all of the important REAL LIFE skills that were once mandatory to live day to day. Thanks for sharing.

not saying that the one you found isn't any good, but perhaps for anyone else looking for a light, inexpensive trowel... the Wal-Mart garden department carries a light Gerber or Fiskars trowel made of Zytel/FRN for 97¢

trowel looks like a good idea. I never heard of Gear fest. musta been a good time.
