REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, and Campmor all have liberal return/exchange policies. I've experienced this first-hand with Campmor and EMS. Just yesterday, I asked to exchange an EMS Techwick t-shirt that developed a run in the material. They took it back and I was able to exchange it for another Techwick shirt for free. :) Campmor allowed me to exchange a pair of hiking boots that I'd been wearing for about 4 months. The right boot developed a crack in the plastic sole insert that produced a clicking sound with each stride. Do you know of any other companies that are like this?

I've had very good experiences with Cabela's(only one small problem, something I believe was mislabeled, generally their stuff is very good) and Sierra Trading Post, who exchanged with no question an item that wore out within days and one washing.

Duluth Trading has always had great return policies. I understand LL Bean has exceptionally good service and return privileges, even for very worn stuff, as does Filson. And I believe I've seen similar high marks for Tumi, for example, and several--if not all--knife makers right here on Bforums.

Glad to hear Campmor etc stands behind their products.

While they carry a lot more than just "gear", Costco has a wonderful return policy - your satisfaction is guaranteed forever...

I forgot about Cabela's and Costco. I've returned stuff to Cabela's and, on top of that, have gotten discount certificates from them as part of the return process. I've heard stories about Costco, but I haven't experienced it first-hand yet. :)
