Where would i get the extra gear/pulleys to increase the gear ratio to slow a wood band saw down? I understand the concept I just dont know where you can get a "gear" or pulley or wheel that i can use to accomplish this? any help would ......... help!

Depends on how much you wanna step it down. A simple 3 step pulley will work which you can get just about any hardware supplier. knife supplier, belt grinder supplier.

It would depend on the band saw. Ones with a belt from the motor driving the saw are easily slowed down by merely changing the pulley on the saw to a larger pulley. If it is a more modern type with the motor built into the saw, then changing the speed may be very difficult or impossible. There are other issues with using a wood saw for cutting metal, too.

How is your google fu? There is alot of info out there on the net for converting a wood band saw to a metal cutting band saw. to do it right you will need to make a jack shaft.

Take a good look at the previous discussion, the gear downs I have seen are a lot of work, the HF metal bandsaw is pretty inexpensive and works out of the box

Mine has cut over a thousand feet of steel and still works fine. I paid about $80, too. A Lenox bi-metal blade is the trick.
