I just bought a Great Eastern Cutlery Northfield pioneer in Red Barn Board bone and 1095 steel, and I was wondering what kind of quality can I expect. I dont have much slippie experience so I dont know much slippie specific qualities. That said, how sharp can I expect the knife to be? How is the fit and finish normally? Thanks in advance for the help.

GEC makes excellent knives. I have little doubt that you will be pleased.

Check out the Traditional Forum for lots more info on these fantastic knives.

great choice, they make excellent cutlery. old world, traditional classic style.
i actually prefer them over more popular collectible makers.
you did good, i want to pick up more of their stuff.

I'll be interested in knowing what you think...post a pic when ya get it please.

Based on my experience with Great Eastern (about 7-8 knives), you can expect the blade to be moderately sharp.
I've felt the need to sharpen all of my Great Eastern knives, but once that's done they are just about shaving sharp.

You can expect the fit and finish of the knife to be excellent.
